Job summary

SpaMedica is seeking an Optical Assistant for a 12-month fixed-term contract at St Catherine’s Health Centre, Birkenhead. The role supports optometrists, conveys diagnostics, and helps run pre- and post-operative clinics across the Wirral hospital cluster.

Working 37.5 hours weekly (4 days out of 6, 7:30 AM–5:30 PM), the role offers a £25,000 salary and involves governance, stock control, and daily equipment management to ensure safe, efficient care.

Qualifications

• Experience with clinical governance principles.
• Ability to assist optometrists with diagnostic examinations.
• Experience in stock control and equipment preparation.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to the principles of clinical governance.
• Work alongside the optometrists in clinics carrying out diagnostic examinations.
• Assist in pre- and post-operative clinics for all patients.
• Act as theatre runner and escort in busy theatre environment.
• Be proficient in Medisoft database.
• Follow procedures for reporting accidents or incidents.
• Prepare all areas prior to clinical activities and ensure equipment is ready.
• Maintain correct storage of equipment.
• Adhere to policies and procedures.
• Assist with stock control and par levels.
• Manage diagnostic and theatre equipment daily.
• Ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
