Job summary

SpaMedica in Wirral region seeks an Optical Assistant on a 12-month fixed-term contract to support ophthalmic clinics. The role runs 37.5 hours per week, four days out of six, from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, at St Catherine's Health Centre and across Wirral Hospital sites as needed.

You will assist optometrists, manage diagnostics, support pre/post-operative clinics and act as a theatre runner while ensuring governance, safety and patient confidentiality throughout care delivery.

Qualifications

• Adhere to the principles of clinical governance.
• Assist in day-to-day diagnostics and clinics alongside optometrists.
• Support pre- and post-operative patient care.
• Operate as theatre runner and assist with theatre activities.
• Maintain stock levels and equipment readiness.
• Protect patient confidentiality and data privacy.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to the principles of clinical governance.
• Work with optometrists to run clinics and perform diagnostics.
• Assist in pre- and post-operative clinics for all patients.
• Act as theatre runner in busy theatre environments.
• Prepare areas and ensure equipment is checked and ready.
• Manage daily diagnostic and theatre equipment.
• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times per GPDR.
