Job summary

Circle Health Group's Woodlands Hospital in Darlington is seeking a Theatre Practitioner to join the theatre team on a bank basis. The role requires supporting the surgical team, preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, and assisting the anaesthetist for safe patient care.

This bank position covers shifts on an as-needed basis, including busy periods and annual leave coverage, with emphasis on infection control, patient safety, and collaborative teamwork in a fast-paced surgical

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (NMC) or ODP (HCPC) with current registration.
• Experience or training in a theatre environment (scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery).
• Knowledge of infection control and patient safety principles.
• Ability to work under pressure and adapt quickly in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety; support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; and provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
• Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
• Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
• Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.
