Job summary

National Grid Electricity Distribution is seeking an Operator - HGV to join our Llanfihangel-ar-Arth depot. You will support Craft teams in construction, maintenance, replacement and repair work on assets up to 66kV, including routine inspections and crane operations.

You must hold English & Maths GCSE and a valid HGV licence with CPC where possible. The role requires initiative, safety-conscious work, and willingness to cover standby duties across the area.

Qualifications

• GCSE English & Maths at level 1-9 or equivalent (Functional Skills acceptable).
• HGV driving licence with Driver CPC ideally.
• Ability to plan lifts and operate a lorry-mounted crane.
• Safety-critical environment experience or mindset is required.

Job Introduction

An opportunity is available for an Operator - HGV based at Llanfihangel-ar-Arth.

As an Operator you will assist Craft teams with the construction, maintenance, replacement and repairs of assets up to and including 66kV. Duties may include carrying out routine inspection, maintenance and repairs of tools and PPE, assisting with the maintenance of stores and with the inspection of substations as required.

Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment.

Main Responsibilities

The working environment requires quick, decisive and responsible thinking and actions to meet the demands of the role. You will need to be flexible in your approach to assist the team in meeting it's objectives.

The Ideal Candidate

You will be licensed to drive a HGV up to category C and ideally hold a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC). You will be able to work using your own initiative, in a safety critical environment including preparing lift plans and operating a lorry mounted crane. Support will be provided to help achieve any missing requirements that the successful candidate will be expected to hold.

You will need to be mobile throughout the area and may be required to undertake out of hours standby duties as and when necessary, to meet business needs.

Operationally we require you to live within approximately 45 minutes of the depot you are applying for.
