Job summary

Smiths Interconnect in Dundee, United Kingdom, is seeking an Assembler to build filters and interconnect products to customer specifications. You will assemble mechanical and electrical parts with attention to quality, safety, and workmanship, using detailed work instructions, drawings, and required tools.

You will join the Interconnect manufacturing team, collaborating with peers, leads, and supervisors to meet production goals.

Qualifications

• Ability to read drawings, schematics, and process instructions.
• Ability to use mechanical inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, pin gages, thread gages, and microscopes.
• Ability to obtain and maintain IPC A610‑E and J‑STD certification.
• Ability to assemble parts using various solder types with hot plates and soldering irons, with or without microscopes.
• Ability to perform basic mechanical assembly.
• Ability to use hand tools to complete tasks.
• Ability to identify process issues.
• Willingness to learn quickly and work with others.
• Ability to follow company policies and work instructions.

Responsibilities

• Level One: Read instructions, align parts, solder small components, perform in‑process inspections, and meet quality standards.
• Level One: Use hand tools and assemble parts following Build Book requirements.
• Level Two: Assemble prototypes and complex assemblies, provide basic troubleshooting, and mentor Level One Assemblers.

Job description

As an Assembler, you will build filters and other interconnect products to customer specifications. This role supports production by assembling mechanical and electrical components using detailed work instructions, drawings, and required tools while maintaining high standards for quality, safety, and workmanship.

Our Team

You will be part of the Interconnect manufacturing team, working closely with peers, leads, and supervisors to meet production goals. The team values collaboration, quality, continuous learning, and adherence to company policies and procedures.

What You Will Do

Level One:

• Read and follow work instructions, production drawings, sample assemblies, or verbal instructions
• Position and align parts in jigs or fixtures as required
• Use soldering irons to solder small parts and components
• Solder capacitors, air wounds, printed circuit boards, ceramic resonators, and component leads per work instructions and Build Book requirements
• Use parts cleaners as required
• Assemble parts using small hand tools such as electric or manual screwdrivers
• Perform in‑process inspections to ensure assemblies meet specifications and quality standards
• Complete assigned tasks with a high level of quality within established timeframes

Level Two:

• Perform all Level One responsibilities
• Assemble prototypes as assigned
• Assemble complex mechanical and electrical assemblies
• Provide basic troubleshooting for assembly‑related issues

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

Level One:

• Ability to read drawings, schematics, and process instructions
• Ability to use mechanical inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, pin gages, thread gages, and microscopes
