Job summary

Altera Recruitment Group is supporting an established energy and waste management operation in Wolverhampton for an Operations Technician. You will assist with safe operation of boilers, steam turbines and associated plant systems, under the Team Leader, monitoring performance via DCS and guiding the ops team.

The role emphasizes supervising the operations team, interpreting plant readings, and maintaining shift records.

Qualifications

• Experience operating high-pressure boilers or energy-from-waste plant environment.
• Experience supervising an operational team and taking responsibility in absence of Team Leader.
• Ability to interpret plant readings, alarms, pressures and temperatures.
• FLT qualification and front loading shovel experience advantageous.
• Health and safety compliance and permit-to-work experience.

Responsibilities

• Support the Team Leader with the safe and efficient operation of boilers, steam turbines and associated plant equipment, taking overall operational responsibility when required.
• Monitor plant performance through the DCS, instrumentation, alarms and operational readings, identifying abnormalities and taking appropriate action to maintain safe and reliable operation.
• Coordinate and supervise the operations team during each shift, allocating duties, overseeing plant activities and ensuring operational procedures are followed.
• Maintain accurate shift records, including plant readings, emissions data, defects, incidents and maintenance requirements, ensuring relevant issues are escalated promptly.
• Respond effectively to plant faults, emergencies and operational issues, supporting repairs, blockages and planned or reactive maintenance while following established emergency and permit to work procedures.

Operations Technician

Altera Recruitment Group is supporting an established energy and waste management operation in the appointment of a Operations Technician to join its operational team in Wolverhampton.

As a Operations Technician your will support the safe and efficient running of boilers, steam turbines and associated plant systems. Working closely with the Team Leader, you will help oversee day to day EFW plant operations, monitor performance through the DCS and provide direction to the operations team.

Key Responsibilities of a Operations Technician

• Support the Team Leader with the safe and efficient operation of boilers, steam turbines and associated plant equipment, taking overall operational responsibility when required.
• Monitor plant performance through the DCS, instrumentation, alarms and operational readings, identifying abnormalities and taking appropriate action to maintain safe and reliable operation.
• Coordinate and supervise the operations team during each shift, allocating duties, overseeing plant activities and ensuring operational procedures are followed.
• Maintain accurate shift records, including plant readings, emissions data, defects, incidents and maintenance requirements, ensuring relevant issues are escalated promptly.

Candidate Requirements

• Previous experience operating or working within a high pressure boiler, steam turbine, energy from waste, power generation or comparable industrial plant environment.
• Proven experience supervising or coordinating an operational team, with the confidence to take responsibility for plant operations in the absence of the Team Leader.
• Strong understanding of industrial control systems, ideally including DCS, together with the ability to interpret plant readings, alarms, pressures, temperatures and flow information.
• A recognised FLT qualification would be advantageous, with experience operating front loading shovel equipment also beneficial.
• Strong commitment to health and safety, with the ability to work within permit to work systems, follow risk assessments and operating procedures, and respond appropriately to incidents and emergencies. A current First Aid qualification would be advantageous.
