Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job Description

The salary for this role is £56,596 (inclusive of a Specialist Allowance). Onsite working is expected for 5 days each week.

This role is be based at Culham, Oxfordshire .

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.

The Role

As Operations Team Leader (Waste Services), you will play a pivotal role in responsibility for the management and development of the staff within their team, and ensuring the availability/performance of all TFC’s tritium/waste operational equipment and capabilities.

Overall Purpose: The Tritium Fuel Cycle (TFC) division is leading the delivery of tritium life cycle solutions for sustainable fusion energy, aiming to maximise the scientific and economic benefits as a result. In addition to delivering high-impact research and development programmes, the division is also responsible for designing, delivering, and operating cutting-edge tritium life cycle facilities. Furthermore, the division seeks to develop productive collaborations and grow a community of experts through the sharing and assimilating of knowledge. The operational groups within TFC operate unique facilities to enable research and development teams that pursue tritium life cycle development. The team focuses on developing a capability to enable the testing and verification of viable fusion tritium life cycle technologies, whilst minimising our operational liabilities. The Operations Team Leader is responsible for the management and development of the staff within their team, and ensuring the availability/performance of all TFC’s tritium/waste operational equipment and capabilities. Accountabilities: Ensure that staff safety, health and welfare are maintained and adhered to in accordance with company policies and procedures.


  • Actively promote UKAEA’s values, championing a culture of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Effective and timely management of staff, including, but not limited to: setting resource allocation and recruitment requirements, knowledge transfer, welfare, setting measurable objectives and performance management, absence management, professional development, and coaching.
  • Ensure suitably qualified and experienced staff are in place to deliver work in accordance with UKAEA standards, management systems, and relevant regulations.
  • Provide support to and/or deliver projects by providing technical leadership and advice. Support implementation of decommissioning strategy, liability reduction program, and final waste disposal.
  • Fulfil the duties of and hold the Authority to Operate (ATO) for nominated Facilities. Management of the asset database with regards to facility and service-related assets, ensuring accurate and appropriate capture of data.
  • Act as contract project manager for any third-party suppliers, liaising with the central Business and Facilities Management team where appropriate.
  • Represent and promote TFC’s innovative offerings and technical specialisms both internally and externally. Support UKAEA initiatives and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders and regulators


Qualifications

Essential Requirements:


  • Educated to a minimum of HND level or equivalent in a relevant discipline or demonstratable equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of fusion and controlled wastes.
  • IOSH Managing safely.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in managing multi-disciplinary and diverse teams.
  • Ability to constructively interact with a variety of stakeholders at all levels of the business.
  • Demonstrably proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
