Job summary

Total Waste Recruitment is seeking an experienced Operations Supervisor / Yard Manager for a busy recycling and waste management site in Halton, Lancaster area. You will oversee day-to-day operations, ensure safety and productivity, and lead yard operatives to meet daily targets.

The role requires strong leadership, organisational skills, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement in heavy industrial settings; IOSH/NEBOSH certification is preferred. Hours are 7am-5pm, Monday to Friday.

Qualifications

Operations Supervisor / Yard Manager – Recycling & Waste Management

Salary: £50,000 basic salary

Hours 7am - 5pm Monday to Friday

Location: Halton, Lancaster, Heysham and surrounding areas

The Role

As Operations Supervisor / Yard Manager, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient day-to-day running of a busy waste management and recycling operation, ensuring high standards of productivity, compliance, and team performance.

You may have been Operations Supervisor, Yard Manager, Recycling Supervisor, Waste Site Supervisor, Shift Manager, Production Supervisor, Plant Supervisor, Team Leader, Assistant Site Manager, Assistant Operations Manager

• Supervising the intake, processing, storage, and dispatch of waste and recyclable materials.
• Leading, motivating, and supporting yard and production operatives to achieve daily operational targets.
• Coordinating plant, machinery, and equipment to ensure efficient and safe operations.
• Promoting and maintaining high standards of Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality compliance across the site.
• Monitoring operational performance and identifying opportunities to improve productivity and efficiency.
• Assisting with operational planning, stock control, and resource allocation.
• Supporting the Site Manager with the day-to-day management of the facility and ensuring smooth site operations.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

• Experience within the scrap metal, waste management, recycling, aggregates, quarrying, manufacturing, production, logistics, or other heavy industrial sectors.
• Previous experience in a supervisory, team leader, yard manager, or shift management role.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop operational teams.
• A proactive approach with excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.
• A commitment to maintaining high standards of Health & Safety.
• IOSH or NEBOSH certification.

Desirable

• COTC/WAMITAB qualification.
• A full UK driving licence.
