Job summary

XPO Logistics in Widnes is seeking an experienced Transport Operations Manager to lead the night transport operation for Tesco Widnes. You will work Sunday to Thursday, 23:00-07:00, overseeing a large team and ensuring service excellence for the customer.

Role includes managing a night depot, ensuring compliance, planning and dispatch oversight, and developing colleagues. The position offers the autonomy to drive performance in a fast-paced environment.

You will be working Sunday to Thursday, 23:00-07:00, you'll be responsible for leading the night transport operation, supporting and developing colleagues, maintaining compliance standards, and ensuring excellent service delivery for our customer.

Pay, Benefits And More

We're looking to offer a salary of up to £45,000. In addition, we offer 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays with an option to buy an extra 5 days yearly. You'll have access to a variety of high street discounts, as well as a cycle to work scheme, a workplace pension and many other perks.

What You’ll Do On a Typical Day

• You will be the most senior point of contact throughout the night and will have management of 14 office colleagues and 210 volume colleagues (excluding agency) plus subcontractors


• Manage the overall operation of the depot on a night-to-night basis ensuring that agreed targets are achieved in line with business and customer requirements.


• Monitor planning and dispatch performance and make decisions to protect Customer Service


• Ensure the Site is legally compliant by ensuring correct processes are in place, have an owner and are monitored.


• Ensure reporting deadlines are met for both Financial and Compliance requirements.


• Proactively promote a health & safety culture


• Support & encourage a good team working spirit and ensure that the transport team work effectively with the Planning team and communicate frequently to achieve the business objectives


• Follow all HR requirements in relation to disciplinary, absence management and return to work situations


• Maximise the potential of new employees by ensuring their operational and psychological engagement and their continual development within the business.


• Ensure appropriate understanding to enable individuals to meet their role requirements and to create involvement and engagement through two-way communication mechanisms.
