Mabey Hire Ltd seeks an Operations Manager (Major Projects & Export) in the Garswood area. You will lead delivery of major projects, oversee export activities, and coordinate planning, depots, transport and international logistics to meet customer requirements.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the operational delivery of Major Projects and Export activities.
• Lead and develop the Major Projects Hire Desk team ensuring planning, coordination and customer service.
• Coordinate between customers, depots, transport teams and internal stakeholders for seamless project execution.
• Oversee planning and allocation of materials, equipment and resources for complex project delivery.
• Collaborate with Regional General Managers to align depot capability with project needs.
• Ensure export operations, including customs clearance and international logistics, are executed effectively.
• Work with freight forwarders and internal teams to deliver projects safely, efficiently and on time.
• Drive transport and logistics efficiencies and control operational costs across projects.
• Promote a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
• Monitor project performance and identify opportunities to improve service delivery and planning accuracy.
• Coordinate with Sales, Engineering, Commercial and Operations to support growth and large-scale opportunities.
• Capture and share lessons learned for future improvements.

Operations Manager – Major Projects & Export

Location – Garswood, Bridge House

We are a leading temporary works specialist and at the forefront of our industry for over 60 years, with a reputation built on engineering and service excellence. This enables us to deliver the right temporary works solution for our customers, whatever the scale or complexity of the project. Our customers include civil engineering and construction contractors, asset owners, and consulting engineering firms through to small builders.

We are currently looking for an Operations Manager (Major Projects & Export) to lead the operational delivery of our major projects and export activities. This role will be responsible for ensuring complex, high-value projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with customer requirements, coordinating planning, depot execution, transport and international logistics to achieve outstanding customer outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the operational delivery of all Major Projects and Export activities across the business.
• Lead and develop the Major Projects Hire Desk team, ensuring high levels of planning, coordination and customer service.
• Act as the central coordination point between customers, depots, transport teams and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
• Oversee the planning and allocation of materials, equipment and resources to support complex project delivery.
• Work closely with Regional General Managers to align depot capability and capacity with project requirements.
• Ensure export operations are executed effectively, including customs compliance, documentation and international logistics management.
• Collaborate with freight forwarders, transport providers and internal teams to deliver projects safely, efficiently and on time.
• Drive transport and logistics efficiencies across major projects, optimising fleet utilisation and controlling operational costs.
• Promote a safety-first culture and ensure all project activities comply with company procedures and health, safety and environmental standards.
• Monitor project performance, identifying opportunities to improve service delivery, planning accuracy and operational efficiency.
• Work closely with Sales, Engineering, Commercial and Operational teams to support business growth and the successful delivery of large-scale opportunities.
• Capture and share lessons learned to continuously improve future project execution and customer satisfaction.

What You Need

• Proven experience in an operational, logistics or project coordination role, ideally within plant hire, construction, engineering or logistics.
• Experience managing complex projects or coordinating across multiple teams and locations.
• Strong planning, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent problem-solving ability and the capability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Commercial awareness with an understanding of cost control and operational efficiency.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the business and with customers.
• Health & Safety qualification (IOSH minimum preferred).
• Full UK driving licence.
