Portakabin Ltd is seeking an experienced Operations Manager (Construction) for the London East Hire & Service Centre based in Purfleet. The role offers a permanent contract with a salary up to £52,000 per year and a potential bonus of up to 10% based on performance.

You will lead and coordinate site operatives, plan resources, ensure safety and quality standards, and deliver orders on time while maintaining excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• Experience of working in site or yard operations with a focus on safety and cost-efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Plan and allocate work to ensure safe, efficient and cost‑effective operations.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and quality standards, including RAMS and delivery docs.
• Lead health, safety and environmental activities and investigations.
• Coach and develop operatives to maintain high standards and qualifications.
• Set clear expectations, promote accountability and sustain high performance.
• Liaise with stakeholders to resolve operational challenges (materials, deadlines, client requirements).
• Monitor refurbishment times and quality guides, ensuring standards are met.
• Plan and secure approval for overtime or changes to procedures.
• Build peer networks and share best practice for continuous improvement.

As an Operations Manager you will lead and coordinate the operative team to deliver orders and services safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards. You will need to plan and organise resources effectively to meet agreed cost, quality and delivery commitments, ensuring excellent customer service.

Role Details

• Annual salary of up to £52,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience
• Potential annual‑on‑target bonus of up to 10% subject to business performance
• Role based: London East Hire & Service Centre, Purfleet, RM19 1RR
• Contract type: Permanent
• Company Car

• Annual leave of 25 days per annum plus bank holidays and opportunity to buy an additional 5 days each year.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and allocate work to ensure safe, efficient and cost-effective operations.
• Ensure compliance with company safety, environmental and quality standards, including preparing RAMS and other required delivery documentation.
• Lead health, safety and environmental activities, including incident reporting, investigations and active team engagement in HSE initiatives and programmes.
• Motivate, coach and develop operatives to maintain high standards and ensure the required skills and qualifications are in place.
• Hold regular conversations with individuals and teams to set clear expectations, promote accountability and sustain high performance standards.
• Liaise with stakeholders to resolve operational challenges such as material shortages, programme deadlines or client requirements.
• Monitor refurbishment times and quality guides, ensuring adherence to standards.
• Plan and secure approval for overtime or changes to operating procedures where required.
• Build effective peer networks and stakeholder relationships, sharing best practice and contributing to continuous improvement.

• Experience of supporting operational teams.
