Job summary

Astute's Power Team is recruiting an Operations Manager for a new Energy from Waste Power Station in Kelvedon, Essex. The role leads plant operations to deliver safe, reliable power up to 65MW for export to the National Grid.

You will report to the Plant Manager, manage shifts, ensure regulatory compliance, coordinate with Maintenance, and drive efficiency while preparing and controlling the annual Operations budget. A competitive salary and benefits accompany this role.

Qualifications

• HNC minimum in an engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation)
• IOSH or NEBOSH health and safety qualification
• Experience in operational/engineering management on a large process plant; power generation background preferred and contract management experience will be considered

Responsibilities

• Overall safe and efficient operation of the plant
• Day-to-day leadership of the operations staff including shift and day workers
• Ensure the power station operates and complies within environmental regulations at all times
• Liaise with the Maintenance Manager regarding projects, outages, costing and programming of plant improvements
• Monitor plant efficiency and direct staff to optimise the power station accordingly
• Prepare the annual budget for the Operations department and manage within it
• Carry out annual performance reviews with operations staff

Job description

Astute's Power Team is working exclusively with a major waste management and energy company to recruit for an Operations Manager to join their new Energy from Waste Power Station in Kelvedon, Essex. The power station can generate up to 65MW of electricity to export to the National Grid.

Responsibilities and duties of the Operations Manager role

Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will be responsible for:

• The overall safe and efficient operation of the plant
• The day-to-day leadership of the operations staff which will include shift and day workers.
• Ensuring the power station operates and complies within environmental regulations at all times
• Liaising with the Maintenance Manager and other relevant personnel regarding projects, maintenance, outages, costing and programming of plant improvements
• The day-to-day monitoring of plant efficiency and directing the operations staff to optimise the power station accordingly
• Preparing the annual budget for the Operations department for review and work within this budget
• Carry out annual performance reviews with operations staff

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

• Ideally having a HNC minimum qualification in an engineering discipline such as Mechanical, Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation, etc
• Ideally a formal health and safety qualification such as IOSH or NEBOSH

Personal Skills, Prior Experience and Knowledge

The Operations Manager role would suit someone who has:

• Prior experience of operational / engineering management experience on a large process plant, ideally Power Generation - Candidates from other sources of Power, Utilities, Refineries, Petrochemical, COMAH etc will also be considered
• Prior experience of contract management and budget responsibility
• Good leadership experience and proven ability to lead large teams
