Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company LLC in Preston, United Kingdom is seeking an Operational Improvement Engineer to lead and implement lean, Six Sigma and RCA based process improvements. Qualifications

  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management or related discipline.
  • Experience delivering process improvement or continuous improvement projects in manufacturing or industrial settings.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, RCA, Kaizen and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret operational and performance data to support decisions.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams to deliver measurable improvements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and continuous improvement reporting tools is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead manufacturing and process improvement projects to enhance safety, quality, productivity and performance.
  • Analyse production processes, equipment performance and data to identify improvements.
  • Apply Lean, RCA, Six Sigma and structured problem-solving to address challenges.
  • Reduce variation, defects, rework and waste through continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Improve throughput, equipment reliability and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Investigate safety, quality and production issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Maintenance and Quality teams to deliver improvements.
  • Develop business cases, project plans and performance metrics for improvements.
  • Monitor progress and track realized benefits such as productivity gains and cost savings.
  • Coach team members in CI tools and best practices.

As an Operational Improvement Engineer, you will be responsible for identifying, developing and implementing initiatives that improve manufacturing performance, product quality, workplace safety, equipment reliability and operational efficiency. Working closely with Production, Maintenance, Engineering and Quality teams, you will lead process improvement projects using Lean Manufacturing, Root Cause Analysis, problem-solving techniques and data-driven decision-making.

You will analyse operational performance, identify opportunities for improvement and implement sustainable solutions that reduce waste, improve productivity and support business objectives. All activities must be delivered in compliance with safety, quality, environmental and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor project progress and track realised benefits including productivity gains, cost savings and quality improvements.
  • Coach and support employees in continuous improvement tools, problem-solving techniques and best practices.
  • Promote a culture of operational excellence, employee engagement and continuous learning.
Success Measures

Success in this role will be demonstrated through:

  • Improved safety performance and reduction of operational risks.
  • Reduction in quality defects, non-conformances, rework and waste.
  • Increased production throughput and equipment availability.
  • Improvements in OEE, process capability and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Deliver measurable cost savings and productivity improvements.
  • Successful completion of improvement projects and implementation of sustainable solutions.
  • Increased employee participation in continuous improvement projects.
  • Complete corrective and preventive actions.
Qualifications
  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management or a related discipline.
  • Experience delivering process improvement or continuous improvement projects within a manufacturing, production or industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Kaizen and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret operational, manufacturing and performance data to support decision-making.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams to deliver measurable business improvements.
