Job summary

Murphy is recruiting for an Operations Director to oversee HV Transmission projects (132kV–400kV) and major civil works, with responsibility for leadership, governance, and financial performance.

You will line manage Project Directors, drive program delivery, and maintain strong client relationships across multi-discipline programmes, ensuring safe and timely completion.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering HV Transmission projects (132kV–400kV) or major civil projects.
• Experience in an Operations Director or Senior Managerial role.
• Strong commercial and contractual awareness.
• Experience on complex multi-discipline enhancement projects with schedule and cost controls.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills with clients and subcontractors.

Responsibilities

• Lead scope of works and ensure safe, on-time delivery to quality standards and financial targets.
• Set project/contract standards and ensure consistency across portfolio.
• Build and develop operational and project management teams to meet contract requirements.
• Line manage Project Directors responsible for operational delivery and chair regular project meetings.
• Manage the “fit to start” process for controlled mobilization and formal handover from bid to delivery.
• Develop and maintain effective communication with Client and stakeholders.
• Present strategic updates and develop strategic plans.
• Lead the development of detailed cost forecasts and align resource forecasts with programme.
• Implement improvement actions to achieve or better financial objectives.
• Collaborate across teams to ensure readiness and smooth project execution.

A day in the life of a Murphy Operations Director:

• Lead the scope of works and ensure they are delivered in a safe manner, on time, to the required quality standards, meeting the acceptance criteria and achieving the expected financial outcomes.
• Sets the overall standard on the project/contract, ensuring consistency across the portfolio and in line with standards policies and procedures.
• Build and develop the wider operational and project management team to build management capability and deliver all aspects of the project/contract requirements.
• Line management of Project Directors that are accountable for the operational delivery of the project, chairing regular project team meetings, ensuring actions are recorded and closed out.
• Manage the “fit to start” process to ensure that we mobilise in a controlled and timely manner to facilitate the timely delivery of the project scope. Ensure there is an effective, comprehensive, and formal handover from the work winning team to the delivery team.
• Develop and maintain effective communication and collaborative relationships with the Client and other project stakeholders.
• Present strategic updates and develop strategic plans.
• Lead the development of a detailed cost forecast for the project, ensuring it is reviewed and updated regularly.
• Lead the development of resource forecasts (staff, labour, key plant and materials), ensuring they are aligned and coordinated with the programme.
• Lead the development and implementation of improvement actions where necessary to ensure the financial objectives are achieved / bettered.
