Job summary

Murphy is recruiting a Project Director to lead the Energy Team on National Grid, ETP Framework projects across the South West of England and Wales. The role focuses on delivering HV transmission projects (132kV–400kV) with strong commercial and contractual acumen, leading a multi-disciplinary team and ensuring safe, on-time delivery.

  • Experience in delivering HV Transmission projects within 132kV to 400kV or major civil projects.
  • Experience in a Project Director or Senior Managerial role.
  • HNC / HND qualification.
  • Strong commercial and contractual awareness.
  • Experience on complex multi-discipline enhancement projects with cost and programme controls.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the scope of works is delivered safely, on time and to the required quality, meeting acceptance criteria and financial outcomes.
  • Sets the overall standard on the project/contract, ensuring consistency across projects and in line with policies.
  • Build and develop the wider operational and project management team to deliver all aspects of the project requirements.
  • Line manage Project Managers, chair regular project team meetings, ensure actions are recorded and closed.
  • Manage the fitting to start process to mobilise in a controlled and timely manner and ensure formal handover from bid to delivery.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication with the Client and other stakeholders.
  • Produce detailed cost forecasts and ensure they are updated regularly.
  • Oversee resource forecasts and coordinate with the programme.
  • Support procurement of suppliers and sub-contractors.
  • Lead improvement actions to achieve financial objectives.

Murphy is recruiting for a Project Director to work with the Energy Team on the National Grid, ETP Framework working between the South West of England and Wales.

A day in the life of a Murphy Project Director:
  • Ensure that the scope of works is delivered in a safe manner, on time, to the required quality standards, meeting the acceptance criteria and achieving the expected financial outcomes.
  • Sets the overall standard on the project/contract, ensuring consistency across projects and in line with standards policies and procedures.
  • Build and develop the wider operational and project management team to build management capability and deliver all aspects of the project/contract requirements.
  • Line management of Project Managers that are accountable for the operational delivery of the project, chairing regular project team meetings, ensuring actions are recorded and closed out.
  • Manage the “fitting to start” process to ensure that we mobilise in a controlled and timely manner to facilitate the timely delivery of the project scope. Ensure there is an effective, comprehensive, and formal handover from the work winning team to the delivery team.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication and collaborative relationships with the Client and other project stakeholders.
  • Produce detailed cost forecast for the project, ensuring it is reviewed and updated regularly.
  • Oversee resource forecasts (staff, labour, key plant and materials), ensuring they are aligned and coordinated with the programme.
  • Support the procurement of suppliers and sub-contractors.
  • Lead the development and implementation of improvement actions where necessary to ensure the financial objectives are achieved / bettered.
