Job summary

Murphy is recruiting a Project Director to lead energy sector projects across Kentish Town, the South West and Wales. You will drive safe, on-time delivery, with a strong focus on technical and commercial outcomes.

The role requires leadership of multi-disciplinary teams, robust stakeholder management, and delivering within programme and cost controls to meet strategic objectives.

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering HV Transmission projects 132kV–400kV or major civil works.
  • Experience in a Project Director or Senior Managerial role.
  • Strong commercial and contractual awareness.
  • Excellent stakeholder management across clients and subcontractors.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure scope of works is delivered safely, on time, to quality.
  • Sets the overall standard on the project, aligning with policies and procedures.
  • Build and develop the project team to deliver all requirements.
  • Line manage Project Managers and chair regular project team meetings.
  • Manage the fit-to-start process and handover from bid to delivery.
  • Maintain effective communication with Client and project stakeholders.
  • Produce detailed cost forecasts and manage resources to programme.
  • Support procurement of suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Lead improvement actions to achieve financial objectives.

Murphy is recruiting for a Project Director to work within our Energy sector on the ETP Framework based between Kentish Town, the South West and Wales.

A day in the life of a Murphy Project Director:
  • Ensure that the scope of works is delivered in a safe manner, on time, to the required quality standards, meeting the acceptance criteria and achieving the expected financial outcomes.
  • Sets the overall standard on the project/contract, ensuring consistency across projects and in line with standards policies and procedures.
  • Build and develop the wider operational and project management team to build management capability and deliver all aspects of the project/contract requirements.
  • Line management of Project Managers that are accountable for the operational delivery of the project, chairing regular project team meetings, ensuring actions are recorded and closed out.
  • Manage the “fit to start” process to ensure that we mobilise in a controlled and timely manner to facilitate the timely delivery of the project scope. Ensure there is an effective, comprehensive, and formal handover from the work winning team to the delivery team.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication and collaborative relationships with the Client and other project stakeholders.
  • Produce detailed cost forecast for the project, ensuring it is reviewed and updated regularly.
  • Oversee resource forecasts (staff, labour, key plant and materials), ensuring they are aligned and coordinated with the programme.
  • Support the procurement of suppliers and sub-contractors.
  • Lead the development and implementation of improvement actions where necessary to ensure the financial objectives are achieved / bettered.

  • Strong commercial and contractual awareness.
  • Experience of working on complex multi-discipline Enhancement projects, delivering within programme and cost controls
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, able to develop close working relationships with clients and subcontractors.
