Job summary

Northern Powergrid in the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire is recruiting an Operational Technology Infrastructure Engineer to join our Digital & Innovation team. The role spans OT and IT infrastructure, with a focus on security tooling, releases and testing, and reliability of critical control systems.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum 3 years’ experience in OT or IT infrastructure support (2nd/3rd line), VMware vSphere, Windows and Unix, and a track record of maintaining

Qualifications

• Minimum HNC / Level 4 qualification in information systems or similar.
• Full UK Driving License
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in OT or IT infrastructure support (2nd/3rd line), including VMWare vSphere, Microsoft and RHEL
• Firewall configuration
• Cyber Security tooling

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain OT infrastructure including VMWare vSphere, Microsoft and Unix based platforms.
• Implement and maintain security tooling such as firewalls, AV, SIEM, and vulnerability scanning.
• Support the OT Incident and Change process.
• Support system testing for new releases and assist projects with testing standards.
• Represent OT on infrastructure related projects.
• Implementation of software releases, patches and service packs.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage third party support staff and contractors.

The role of Operational Technology Infrastructure Engineer covers a wide range of disciplines, and we are looking for ambitious individuals from the world of OT and IT. The successful candidate will be subject to SC-level National Security Vetting. Candidates will be required to have lawfully resided in the UK for a minimum of 5 years to support security clearance processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain our Operational Technology infrastructure including VMWare vSphere, Microsoft and Unix based platforms.
• Implement and maintain security tooling such as firewalls, AV, SIEM, and vulnerability scanning.
• Support the OT Incident and Change process.
• Support system testing for new releases and assist projects with testing standards.
• Represent OT on infrastructure related projects.
• Implementation of software releases, patches and service packs.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage third party support staff and contractors.
• Knowledge of Microsoft and Unix based systems.
• Knowledge of network communications including Firewalls, Switches and Routers.
• Knowledge of VMWare vSphere products.
• Take ownership of problems and maintain service levels for high profile and critical control systems.
• Demonstrate effective communication skills at all levels of the business.
• Highly Motivated and strong interpersonal skills with an ability to focus on and work methodically through problems until the root cause is understood.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum HNC / Level 4 qualification in information systems or similar
• Full UK Driving License
• Minimum 3 years’ experience working in an OT or IT infrastructure support role at 2nd/3rd Line level, including support of VMWare vSphere, Microsoft and RHEL
• Firewall configuration
• Cyber Security tooling

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

• ITIL v4
• Level 6 qualification / Degree (or working toward) in Information Systems or similar
• Service Now
• Experience working in OT or highly regulated environments
