Job summary

Northern Powergrid in Leeds is seeking a Network Access Engineer to plan outages on the distribution network up to 132kV and to deliver a coordinated outage programme that keeps customers powered.

The role requires strong IT skills, risk assessment capabilities and teamwork with control centres, programme delivery and customer service to meet business requirements.

Qualifications

  • Must hold an HNC in Electrical Engineering.
  • Proficient IT skills.
  • Ability to assess system risk and escalate as necessary.
  • Competent in the use of IT systems.
  • Ability to balance workload priorities to deliver business requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage outages on the distribution network up to 132KV.
  • Ensure outage planning is efficient and coordinated across all voltages.
  • Analyse outage requests for risk, safety and compliance with DSR/OPM rules.
  • Be the reference point for outage technical enquiries.
  • Maintain records in NMS and OMS for planned power cuts.
  • Provide customer service information for updates on planned incidents.
  • Coordinate with Control Centres to maintain BAU, escalation and recovery capacity.
  • Support Control team during major incidents.
  • Collaborate with Operational zones, Programme Delivery and Customer Service teams.
  • Represent the section at planning meetings and provide staff training.

As a dedicated Network Access Engineer you will be an integral part of achieving this, while always striving to keep our customers power flowing; you will be responsible for the effective and efficient planning of the outage requirements to deliver safer operations on the distribution network, at all voltages, through a co-ordinated and efficient outage programme.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Planning and managing outages on the Northern Powergrid distribution network up to and including 132KV.
  • Efficient and effective planning of the outage requirements to deliver safe operations on the distribution network at all voltages through a more coordinated and efficient outage programme.
  • Analyse and technically assess outage requests, assessing system risk/security and compliance with DSR and OPM safety rules whilst reacting to changes to business requirements.
  • Be the point of reference for any outage request technical enquiries.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining records within the NMS and OMS systems relating to planned power cuts.
  • Provide excellent customer service information to allow updates to be provided on planned incidents.
  • Ensure that the collaborative and consistent working between Control Centres is achieved in order that the optimum flexibility and capacity is available in 'business as usual', escalated and business recovery situations.
  • Assist and support the Control team during major incidents.
  • Collaborate effectively with key stakeholders, including the Operational zones, Programme Delivery and the Customer Service team to ensure that all business plan requirements are being met and to underpin transparent and collaborative working.
  • Represent the section at planning meetings with others across the business.
  • Provide training to staff to maximise performance and meet current and future business requirements.

Qualifications and Attributes
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
  • The successful candidate must hold an HNC in Electrical Engineering
  • Proficient IT skills
  • Ability to assess system risk and elevate as necessary
  • Competent in the use of IT systems
  • Ability to balance workload priorities in order to deliver business requirements
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
  • Competent with DSR and OPM safety rules
  • Technical knowledge of the distribution network
  • Knowledge of Network Operations and its processes
  • Knowledge of the Network Operations outage planning process
