Verallia UK is seeking an Operational Technology Engineer to lead OT projects across Leeds, Castleford and Knottingley. The role delivers control, automation, instrumentation, SCADA, and PLC solutions with a strong focus on cyber security compliance and system resilience.
The candidate should have a degree or equivalent in Control/Electrical/Automation, with experience in industrial automation and OT project delivery, PLC/HMI/SCADA knowledge, and strong communication and IT literacy.

We are currently seeking to recruit a highly motivated and pro-active individual to join our IT Department as an Operational Technology Engineer based at our West Yorkshire site in Castleford. Reporting to the Head of IT, the role is responsible for leading, managing, and delivering Operational Technology (OT) projects across all Company sites (across Leeds, Castleford and Knottingley), ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant implementation of control, automation, instrumentation, SCADA, PLC, network and industrial digitalisation solutions.
The Operational Technology Engineer is accountable for the full lifecycle delivery of OT projects, including concept development, design, procurement, installation, commissioning, budget management, stakeholder engagement, cyber security compliance, operational integration, and ongoing system resilience.
The role provides technical leadership and governance for all OT and process control infrastructure whilst supporting operational reliability, business continuity, asset performance, and future technological development throughout the Company.
Ideal candidates should hold a Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering or related discipline. Previous skills and knowledge of delivering industrial automation and Operational Technology projects, as well as an advanced knowledge of PLC, HMI and SCADA systems, instrumentation principles, configuration and calibration are essential for this role. A strong understanding of industrial communication protocols including Profinet, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, Modbus RTU & TCP, and OPC UA is also required.
The ability to implement change and drive new initiatives, as well as develop and deliver projects to make improvements is essential to succeed in this role. Candidates will be expected to work with a high level of integrity and autonomy and, as such, they will require excellent interpersonal skills, be able to work on their own initiative and have a can-do attitude. They should be able to demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills and have a high level of IT literacy using Microsoft packages, as well as excellent analytical, organisational and troubleshooting abilities.
This is a monthly paid staff position, working 35 hours per week, however, due to the nature of the role, there may be occasions when you will be required to work over and above your contracted hours and demonstrate a level of flexibility.
