Job summary

Biffa Waste Services is seeking a hands-on Operational Supervisor for the Manchester Depot to oversee daily depot operations and support a safety‑driven workforce. You will drive KPI achievement, supervise inductions and toolbox talks, ensure compliance with drivers’ hours and WTD, and lead efficiency improvements across vehicle and crew operations.

The role requires LGV licence and strong communication skills to coordinate across teams and management, with a focus on safe, compliant service

Qualifications

• LGV licence required.

Responsibilities

• Monitor safe working practices via CCTV, tracking systems, and observations.

• Lead inductions, safety training, and site checks.
• Assist Supervisors in driving vehicle and crew efficiencies while monitoring performance.
• Support management in productivity, resource planning and budget alignment.

Operational Supervisor

Location: Manchesster Depot

Shift: Monday to Friday, 37.5hrs per week

We’re looking for a hands‑on Operations Supervisor to oversee the depot operations and support our workforce in delivering a safe, efficient, and compliant service.

What you’ll do:

• Oversee daily/weekly/monthly tasks to meet KPIs and contract requirements
• Monitor safe working practices through vehicle CCTV, tracking systems, and on‑route crew observations.
• Ensure compliance with the Company’s Operator’s Licence, drivers’ hours regulations, and the Working Time Directive.
• Lead inductions, safety training, and site checks
• Assist Supervisors in driving vehicle and crew efficiencies, while monitoring team performance and competency
• Support management in ensuring operational productivity, resource planning, and budget alignment.

Here’s what we require:

• Knowledge of Safe Systems of Work, operational procedures, and Health & Safety requirements
• Able to communicate clearly and respectfully at all levels, both verbally and in writing.
• Good understanding of the drivers Working Time Directive.
• LGV Licence (Essential)
• Builds trust and positive relationships, contributes to team meetings, and confidently leads crew briefings and toolbox talks.
