Job summary

Springer Nature is seeking an Associate Publisher to manage a portfolio of open access journals in our Open Access division. You will report to an Executive Publisher and oversee strategic development, liaising with internal staff, Editors, and the broader scientific community.

The role is hybrid, based in London or New York, with responsibilities spanning portfolio growth, contract negotiations, and stakeholder engagement to drive journal success and author satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Educated to Bachelor's degree level or equivalent, preferably in a relevant field (life, biomedical or health sciences)
• A proactive approach in dealing with problems and queries, and the ability to adapt quickly to change
• Excellent communication (verbal and written)
• Persuasion and influencing skills with diplomacy and assertiveness
• Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels and as part of a team
• Ability to work on your own initiative and independently
• Strong time management and organisational skills; ownership of tasks and deadlines
• Experience developing and maintaining productive relations with academic and industry researchers
• Strong technical skills with sharp attention to detail
• Willingness to travel for the role occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Drive results through portfolio development and management and demonstrate accountability
• Drive growth and development of a group of open access journals with annual development plans and opportunities for business development
• Manage annual targets for submission, publication and transfer volumes and turnaround times
• Deliver best-in-class author experience and engage Editors-in-Chief and Editorial Boards
• Demonstrate resilience and adaptability in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
• Resolve pre- and post-publication issues raised by staff, editors and readers
• Utilise data analytics to support data-driven decision making and strategic planning
• Manage contract negotiations with external parties with understanding of P&L and forecasting
• Collaborate and communicate effectively, building relationships with colleagues and external Editors
• Keep up to date with changes in the research and publishing industry
