Job summary

Blue Cross in Hertfordshire is seeking a Pet Welfare Assistant for our onsite services at the Hitchin rehoming centre. This part-time role (30 hours per week) involves caring for dogs, cats and small pets, carrying out welfare checks, assessments and rehabilitation plans to support pets toward adoption.

You will work with the Rehoming & Fostering team, document all observations and liaise with owners and the Adoptions Coordinator to ensure pets find loving homes quickly.

Qualifications

• Experience with domestic animals or in an animal welfare setting.
• Customer-focused background with high customer satisfaction.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organisational and administrative skills; computerised systems.
• Current full driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Prepare pets for adoption by conducting assessments and rehabilitation plans.
• Maintain welfare standards and follow rehabilitation plans for pets.
• Meet with pet owners, record information and ensure paperwork is complete.
• Work with the Adoptions Coordinator to advise adopters and support post-adoption needs.
• Cover part-time shifts across a two-week rota including every other weekend.
