Job summary

Avantor is seeking a science-savvy Biobank Liaison Scientist based in Cambridge, UK. The role blends computer tasks (70%) with hands-on laboratory work (30%), in a 12-month temporary position at The Discovery Centre, Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge.

You will join a five-person Biobank team within Lab and Production Services to manage human tissue samples, ensure traceability, and support histology activities. A Bachelor’s degree in science is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience in Biobanking or handling human biological samples.
• Experience with histology techniques (microtomy and staining).
• Proficient with Excel for data transformation and analysis; familiarity with LIMS/databases.
• Knowledge of global standards and GCP regulatory requirements.
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Receive, register, and trace Human Biological Samples in our systems.
• Maintain inventory of samples per Good Clinical Practice and provide manifests.
• Perform sectioning and staining of samples and contribute to histology lab maintenance.
• Track all work-in-progress using informatics systems and databases.
• Respond to internal and external customer queries and ensure compliant processes.
• Monitor key dates and ensure sample checkout timelines are followed.
