Job Description

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.

You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, co-ordinating a team to deliver a clean and fully stocked store that exceeds customer expectations.

Since the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will constantly seek ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will have a strong understanding of your store's performance and be the specialist in implementing practical actions for its improvement through a hands-on approach.

With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.

You will be Responsible For
  • Coordinate the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community
  • Opening/closing the store and completing duty cover, ensuring decisions benefit customers, colleagues, and safety
  • Be the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for operational queries
  • Support the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community, and charity events to create an inclusive atmosphere
  • Ensure the store is clean, tidy, and well presented
  • Prioritize replenishment of products important to customers
  • Ensure point of sale and shelf labels are accurate
  • Address overcharges immediately and prevent reoccurrence
  • Manage queues proactively to enhance customer experience
  • Coordinate colleagues' daily priorities and breaks around trade patterns
  • Be knowledgeable about store operations and lead practical improvements
  • Follow health and safety routines and ensure colleagues do the same
  • Deliver effective communication to the team
  • Identify ways to simplify operations and share ideas with the Store Manager
  • Always prioritize the customer and adapt service to meet their needs
  • Resolve customer queries promptly and leave them satisfied
  • Recognize and celebrate colleagues providing excellent service
  • Identify and remove obstacles to delivering great service
  • Resolve colleague queries in the absence of the Store Manager or escalate when necessary
  • Ensure adequate staffing, managing short-term absences and sickness
  • Act as a Keyholder, attending alarm call-outs to ensure store security
  • Monitor and respond to internal communications promptly
  • Coordinate colleagues to meet customer and operational needs, reporting issues to the Store Manager
  • Balance time between service and replenishment areas
  • Support the Store Manager in managing staff absence, conducting return-to-work interviews, and reporting absence triggers
  • Build relationships with Area Managers and People Partners, escalating issues, seeking advice, and engaging in coaching
  • If the store has a Post Office Local, your duties will include managing daily operations of the post office, which requires passing a background check. Failure to pass will result in withdrawal of the job offer.
