Job description

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.

You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, co-ordinating a team to deliver a clean and full store that exceeds customer expectations.

As the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will constantly seek ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will have a strong understanding of your store’s performance and be the specialist in delivering practical actions for its improvement through a hands-on approach.

With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.

You will be Responsible For

  • Coordinating the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community
  • Opening/closing the store and completing duty cover, ensuring decisions benefit customers, colleagues, and safety
  • Being the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for operational queries
  • Supporting the Store Manager in co-ordinating seasonal, community, and charity events to create an inclusive atmosphere
  • Maintaining the store’s cleanliness, tidiness, and presentation
  • Prioritising the replenishment of products important to customers
  • Ensuring point of sale and shelf labels reflect high standards
  • Addressing overcharges immediately and preventing reoccurrence
  • Managing queues proactively to ensure a positive shopping experience
  • Co-ordinating colleagues to meet daily priorities and manage breaks around trade patterns
  • Being knowledgeable about the store and leading practical improvements
  • Following health and safety routines and ensuring colleagues do the same
  • Communicating effectively with the team and keeping them informed
  • Seeking ways to simplify operations and sharing ideas with the Store Manager
  • Putting the customer first and tailoring service to meet their needs
  • Resolving customer queries promptly and leaving them satisfied
  • Recognising colleagues who deliver great service
  • Removing obstacles to delivering excellent service
  • Resolving colleague queries in the absence of the Store Manager or escalating as needed
  • Ensuring appropriate staffing, covering shifts due to absences or sickness
  • Being a Keyholder, attending alarm call outs to ensure safety and security
  • Monitoring and acting on internal communications to keep colleagues informed
  • Balancing service and replenishment duties effectively
  • Supporting the Store Manager with absence management and conducting return-to-work interviews
  • Building relationships with Area Managers and People Partners, escalating issues and seeking coaching
  • If the store has a Post Office Local, duties include managing daily operations and passing necessary background checks, with employment contingent on passing these checks.

As a Shift Leader, you will champion One Stop’s Core Purpose and Values:
