Job Description

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.

You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, co-ordinating a team to deliver a clean and full store that exceeds customer expectations.

Since the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will constantly seek ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will have a great understanding of your store's performance and be the specialist in delivering practical actions for its improvement by taking a hands-on approach.

With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community.
  • Open/close the store and complete duty cover, ensuring decisions are right for customers, colleagues, and safety.
  • Serve as the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for operational queries.
  • Support the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community, and charity events to create an inclusive atmosphere.
  • Ensure the store is clean, tidy, and well-presented.
  • Prioritize replenishment of products important to customers.
  • Ensure point of sale and shelf labels reflect standards.
  • Take immediate action for overcharges and prevent reoccurrences.
  • Proactively manage queues to enhance the shopping experience.
  • Coordinate colleagues to meet daily priorities and manage breaks effectively.
  • Be knowledgeable about the store and lead improvements.
  • Follow health and safety routines and ensure colleagues do the same.
  • Communicate effectively with the team.
  • Seek ways to simplify operations and share ideas with the Store Manager.
  • Always prioritize the customer and tailor service to their needs.
  • Resolve customer queries promptly and leave them satisfied.
  • Recognize colleagues providing excellent service.
  • Identify and help remove obstacles to excellent service.
  • Resolve colleague queries in the absence of the Store Manager or escalate when necessary.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing, reacting to short-term absences.
  • As a recognized Keyholder, attend alarm call-outs to ensure safety.
  • Monitor and act on internal communications.
  • Coordinate colleagues to meet customer needs and store operations, reporting issues to the Store Manager.
  • Balance time between service and replenishment areas.
  • Support the Store Manager in managing colleague absence and conducting return-to-work interviews.
  • Build relationships with Area Managers and People Partners, escalating issues and seeking coaching.
  • If the store has a Post Office Local, perform daily operations and pass necessary background checks.
