Job summary

PerkinElmer, Inc. seeks a General Lab Equipment Engineer to join a team operating at AZ DISC Cambridge (UK) – Customer Site.

You will manage day-to-day laboratory instrument support, liaising with PKI Planners, TLS Engineers and Lead Scheduler to ensure high-quality engineering support across Balances, Centrifuges, Incubators and related equipment. The role involves maintaining compliance with standards, planning maintenance, diagnosing faults, and contributing to documentation and SOP design.

Qualifications

• Experience in Laboratory Instrument Support across a wide range of scientific equipment.
• Experience with centrifuges, incubators, balances, vacuum pumps, refrigerators/freezers, water purifiers, plate washers/readers.
• Strong relationship management and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently but also as part of a team with minimal supervision.
• Strong analytical skills to solve complex problems in a structured way.
• Knowledge of EHS procedures.
• Experience in a fast-paced operational environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• High customer focus.

Responsibilities

• Ensure prompt, flexible, customer-focused equipment support while complying with statutory, regulatory and engineering standards.
• Diagnose faults on complex equipment using multidisciplinary internal/external teams to deliver solutions.
• Plan and carry out maintenance and commissioning of scientific equipment safely and cost-effectively.
• Identify and source components and services using technical knowledge.
• Create, manage and review service reports and associated documentation.
• Support users in designing operating procedures, SOPs, Change Control, deviations and drawings.
• Ensure availability of essential spares for equipment and systems across R&D facilities.
• Assist in contract setup, renewal and budgeting for equipment contracts.
• Monitor performance using KPIs to drive improvements and influence changes.
• Support PKI Management Team to ensure all activities are completed.
• Ensure risk assessments/Memos are completed before work starts.
• Adhere to health and safety procedures and wear PPE as required.
