Job summary

Bennie Group seeks a Resident Field Service Engineer to commission, service and repair materials handling equipment at customer sites across the UK. You will diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, complete safety checks and keep accurate service records, acting as the primary day-to-day technical contact for customers.

The role involves some field work, flexible hours, and close collaboration with the Service Team to minimise downtime; NVQ in mechanical engineering and strong interpersonal

Qualifications

• NVQ in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Analytical with an eye for detail.
• Excellent communications skills.
• Professional and strong interpersonal skills.
• Able to work to tight deadlines.
• Flexible and willing to contribute by helping others.
• Have the ability to understand, manage and prioritise jobs to suit the customers’ requirements.
• Experience in materials handling industry or similar.
• Good working knowledge of field/service work based systems using a tablet.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned maintenance, servicing and repair of forklifts and other materials handling equipment at the resident customer site.
• Follow all health and safety procedures, including risk assessments, safe systems of work, isolation requirements and the correct use of PPE.
• Work in accordance with manufacturer guidance, Bennie Equipment procedures, customer site rules and all relevant quality and compliance requirements.
• Maintain tools, test equipment, the service vehicle and work areas in a clean, safe and serviceable condition.
• Undertake occasional field-service work at other customer locations, including planned servicing, breakdown attendance and short-term operational support.
• Manage the daily workload in line with customer demand, service schedules and agreed priorities, escalating complex technical issues when necessary.
• Build and maintain a positive working relationship with customer representatives, operators and site teams while delivering a high standard of service.
• Act as the principal day-to-day engineering contact for the customer, providing professional technical advice and regular updates on repair progress.
• Identify and request replacement parts and consumables, monitor outstanding requirements and help maintain appropriate stock levels for the resident site.
• Complete service reports, job sheets, timesheets and inspection records accurately through the PDA system, including details of work completed and parts used.
• Conduct routine safety inspections, identify defects and advise the customer of any equipment that requires further attention or should be removed from service.
• Maintain technical knowledge through product training and continuous professional development, sharing relevant information with colleagues and the customer where appropriate
