Job description

Offshore Geotechnical Engineer

The Offshore Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and interpreting geotechnical investigations to support the design and installation of offshore structures, including wind turbine foundations, oil & gas platforms, subsea pipelines, and seabed installations. The role involves interpretation, data analysis, and foundation design/installation recommendations while ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Site Investigation Planning & Execution
  2. Develop geotechnical investigations scopes of work (SOW) for offshore projects.
  3. Select appropriate sampling and in-situ testing methods (CPT, boreholes, vane shear, etc.).
  4. Data Analysis & Reporting
  5. Interpret soil laboratory test results (triaxial, consolidation, cyclic testing).
  6. Develop geotechnical design parameters (shear strength, stiffness, bearing capacity).
  7. Prepare Geotechnical Interpretive Reports (GIRs) and Foundation Design Reports (FDRs).
  8. Foundation Design Support
  9. Provide geotechnical input for pile design, suction caissons, and shallow foundations.
  10. Perform axial and lateral pile capacity calculations (API, DNV, ISO methods).
  11. Perform pile installation analysis (pile driveability, refusal, set-up effects).
  12. Support FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) and detailed design phases.
  13. Compliance & Standards
  14. Ensure adherence to ISO 19901-8, API RP 2GEO, DNV-RP-C212, and client specifications.
  15. Participate in risk assessments (HAZID/HAZOP) related to geotechnical uncertainties.
  16. Review third-party reports and contractor deliverables for technical accuracy.
  17. Maintain awareness of current industry codes, standards, and regulations.
  18. Ensure activities comply with health, safety, quality, and environmental policies.
  19. Project & Client Management
  20. Coordinate with civil, structural, and marine teams for integrated solutions.
  21. Provide technical support during offshore construction and installation.
  22. Communicate findings to clients, regulators, and certification bodies.
Requirements
  • 5-10 years of experience in offshore geotechnics and foundations design.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • Good knowledge of offshore drilling, CPT interpretation, soil-structure interaction, and geotechnical data interpretation.
  • Experience with finite element analysis (PLAXIS, ABAQUS) or pile design software (GRLWEAP, SPLICE, APILE, LPILE, SETTLE3D) is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn and proactive mindset.
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and offshore environments.
