Job summary

Serco Limited in Portsmouth is seeking an Electro‑Technical Officer (ETO) responsible for maintaining, repairing, and operating ship electrical and electronic equipment, including DP, navigation, communications, and hotel systems. The role reports to the Chief Engineer and entails ensuring safe operation, reliability, and compliance with class and company standards.

Qualifications

• Valid STCW Electro‑Technical Officer Certificate (III/6).
• Recognised seagoing ETO experience.
• Strong knowledge of marine electrical, electronic, and automation systems.
• Experience with fault diagnosis and system recovery under operational conditions.
• Familiarity with PMS systems and audit requirements.
• DP vessel / offshore experience.
• Knowledge of power management systems and redundancy concepts.
• High‑voltage training (where applicable).
• GMDSS maintenance endorsement.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, test, and support shipboard safety and emergency systems per requirements.
• Provide electrical/technical support for navigation, communications, and electronic systems.
• Support propulsion, manoeuvring, and DP systems with power systems and redundancy.
• Execute planned maintenance per PMS with timely, correct tasks.
• Keep records for Class, Flag State, ISM, ISPS and charterers; keep audit-ready.
• Coordinate inspections, defect rectification, and attendance of specialists.
• Offer electrical guidance to engineering staff and deck officers to ensure safe operations.
