Job summary

St Helens Council is recruiting an Occupational Therapy Duty Officer for Contact Cares, Reablement and Occupational Therapy. You will triage referrals to the Occupational Therapy Team and interact with service users, family members and professionals to gather information for the triage process.

The role requires excellent listening and communication skills, confidence in building rapport over the phone, and competence with IT systems (Word, Excel) and the council's case recording system.

Making A Difference as an Occupational Therapy Duty Officer in Contact Cares, Reablement and Occupational Therapy

St Helens Cares is the new approach to delivering Health and Social Care in St Helens; bringing together a wide range of public and community service organisations to work in partnership, with a united goal of improving people’s lives and improving the place as a whole. Key to this vision is Contact Cares; which aims to simplify the way we access health and social care services from nursing assessment to social care; reablement to audiology, safeguarding to occupational therapy.

Our Occupational Therapy Team are committed to supporting and assisting people with disabilities to improve their quality of life and be as independent as possible in their home environment.

You will be responsible for triaging referrals received to the Occupational Therapy Team and deal with a variety of queries that come in relating to the Occupational Therapy Service. You will need to interact with service users, family members and professionals in order to gain more information to support the triage process.

You should be self motivated and have excellent listening and communication skills, both written and verbal and be able to confidently build rapport with service users and family members over the phone. You should be competent in accessing IT systems such as Microsoft Word and Excel and will need to access the Council’s case recording system to information gather and input case records. You will need a good understanding of the Occupational Therapy team and the criteria for service provision and training will be provided to support this.

This post is 5 days a week Monday to Friday.

Employees can regularly work away from Council workspaces (including home or other locations), alongside required office-based working. The balance between remote and office-based working is determined at service level based on operational need, however, there has been a minimum specification that staff will work at least 2 days from an office-based location.
