An exciting opportunity has come available to join the Occupational Therapy team at the Trevor Gibbens Unit at Maidstone within the Forensic directorate.

Main duties of the job
  • To assist in identifying, developing and providing the Occupational Therapy contribution within the multi-disciplinary service in accordance with the needs of service users and the requirements of the service.
  • To assess, plan, deliver and evaluate therapeutic interventions for identified service users.
  • To manage a defined caseload of service users with occupational needs using evidence based, service user centred, hope and recovery, health promotion and relapse prevention oriented principles and practice.
  • The post holder must hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car/vehicle to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • To adhere to and apply the current Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct of Occupational Therapists and Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics and Standards of Proficiency for Occupational Therapists.
  • To be responsible for maintaining professional registration.
  • To support the implementation of the current and future Allied Health Professions (AHP) strategy.
  • To adhere to KMPT’s policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • To ensure that the Trust’s values are upheld in Occupational Therapy practice.
  • To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work.
  • To take into account the individuality of the views, wishes, values and beliefs of service users, and relatives, respecting equality and diversity and contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs.
  • To effectively liaise with service users, family, carers, advocates and health and social care professionals regarding service user’s assessment, treatment and care to ensure continuity of care and delivery of a coordinated service as a member of the MDT.
  • To ensure all communication adheres to Trust policy and Caldicott/data protection principles.
  • To assess capacity and obtain informed consent from service users and work within a legal framework with those service users who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
  • To ensure service users are involved in the planning and prioritisation of their care plans wherever possible.
  • In conjunction with colleagues to undertake, record, review and work within individual risk assessment and management plans in line with service and Trust policy.
  • In conjunction with others to identify service user’s needs for additional care provision/housing/specialist placement/further assessment/referral on to other agencies as required.
Person specification
  • Pre-registration Experience of working with patients with autism and/or mental health conditions.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Experience of working with patients within forensic setting.
  • Experience of managing their own caseload.

27 days for full time or pro rata if part time.

Statutory and occupational maternity, paternity or adoption leave: Dependant on length of NHS service.

Other paid/unpaid leave: This can be for Jury Service, Reserved Armed Forces, etc. This is paid outside of annual leave. Non-paid leave for career breaks.

Learning and Development opportunities: In addition to the mandatory subjects there are a number of leadership, management and staff topic areas, including coaching and mentoring.

Induction: KMPT is committed to supporting all new staff and this includes a comprehensive Induction programme. The programme's duration depends on role and can be from 2 days to 4 weeks (not always consecutive days).

The Induction programme will provide an excellent opportunity for new staff to meet and engage with KMPT’s subject specialists and include the required training.

The programme may involve some travel to the various training venues across Kent and Medway, the main ones being Canterbury, Maidstone and Dartford.
