Job summary

UKIM is seeking an Occupational Health Technician to deliver health surveillance and wellbeing initiatives. The role is remote-based with regular travel to client sites and occasional use of the Mobile Screening Unit across multiple locations.

You will set up, operate and maintain equipment on client premises or mobile units, ensure data protection, and escalate clinical concerns as needed to maintain high standards of care.

Role Purpose

The Occupational Health Technician plays a key role in delivering high-quality occupational health services to UKIM clients. This is a remote-based role with regular travel to customer sites and occasional use of the UKIM Mobile Screening Unit to support service delivery across client locations.

Acting as an on-site occupational health resource, the post holder will support the delivery of health surveillance programmes and wellbeing initiatives. Working directly with clients across multiple locations, you will represent UKIM professionally while building positive working relationships with customer stakeholders and employees.

The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking and supporting a range of health surveillance activities, ensuring services are delivered efficiently, safely, and in line with clinical protocols, contractual requirements, and client expectations. This includes setting up, operating, and maintaining equipment within client premises or the Mobile Screening Unit where required.

You will manage, refer, and progress health surveillance cases in accordance with UKIM service level agreements, providing a proactive, professional, and customer-focused service. The role requires a commitment to delivering high standards of care, identifying and escalating clinical concerns where necessary, and supporting the continuous improvement of occupational health services.

As a visible representative of UKIM, you will demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, and a dedication to delivering an exceptional client experience whilst supporting operational requirements across a diverse range of customer environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct health surveillance activities, including audiometry, spirometry and other agreed screening programmes in accordance with UKIM protocols and client requirements.
  • Support the identification, assessment and management of occupational health hazards and workplace health risks.
  • Carry out Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) assessments to Tier 1 and Tier 2 standards.
  • Maintain accurate, timely and confidential occupational health records in accordance with UKIM standards, professional practice requirements and relevant legislation.
  • Comply with all Health and Safety legislation, policies, procedures and safe systems of work whilst travelling to and working at client sites.
  • Maintain competency in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Ensure all occupational health equipment is appropriately maintained, calibrated, checked and fit for purpose, reporting faults or defects promptly.
  • Deliver wellbeing assessments and health screening activities, including blood pressure, pulse, height, weight, BMI and waist-to-hip ratio measurements, providing appropriate health promotion advice within competence.
  • Identify and elevate any clinical concerns, abnormal results, safeguarding issues or fitness-for-work concerns to the Occupational Health Advisor or Occupational Health Physician in a timely manner.
  • Travel regularly to client locations to deliver occupational health services and health surveillance programmes, ensuring a professional and customer-focused service at all times.
  • Adhere to UKIM policies relating to data protection, confidentiality, information governance and professional standards.
  • Contribute to the delivery of high-quality occupational health services by supporting continuous improvement initiatives and maintaining positive relationships with clients and colleagues.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience of working in customer-facing roles.
  • Experience working as an Occupational Health Technician.
  • A willingness to work towards an Occupational Health Technician qualification.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety practices.
