Job summary

SGN is seeking an Occupational Health Technician to deliver high-quality health surveillance services across SGN sites in Scotland, including Glasgow. You will support fitness-for-work assessments and provide professional, employee-focused occupational health support to the workforce.

Working with Occupational Health Advisors, you will conduct health surveillance activities, monitor physical agents, maintain accurate reports and ensure compliance with legislative requirements and company

Qualifications

• Experience in OH technician role or OH setting.
• Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
• Ability to handle confidential data and maintain data protection.
• Proficiency with databases and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Deliver health surveillance activities to a wide workforce in line with HSE guidance and company standards.
• Support fitness-for-work assessments and provide employee-focused OH support.
• Collaborate with OH Advisors and stakeholders to deliver quality service.
• Monitor physical agents and feed findings to enable better controls.
• Generate clear, concise health outcome reports and escalate abnormal findings.
• Ensure proper care, use and calibration of OH equipment.

We’re looking for an Occupational Health Technician to deliver a high-quality occupational health service to the business, helping to protect and promote the health, safety and wellbeing of our workforce. As part of our in-house Occupational Health and Wellbeing team, you'll play a key role in delivering health surveillance programmes, supporting fitness for work assessments and providing a professional, employee-focused service across SGN.

Working closely with Occupational Health Advisors and wider stakeholders, you'll support colleagues across a range of operational and office-based roles, ensuring health surveillance activities are carried out efficiently, accurately and in line with legislative requirements and company standards.

• Deliver a range of health surveillance activities and other key occupational health requirements to the wider workforce, covering industrial and non-industrial employees, in line with current HSE guidance and company requirements
• Work as part of the in-house team, being agile, acting on feedback from the business, continuously improving and delivering a quality service to meet customer requirements
• Advise on legislative health requirements and health and wellbeing in general
• Carry out monitoring of physical agents and feedback findings to allow the SHE management team to enable better controls to be established
• Health Surveillance and Fit for Work assessments
• Carry out a range of health surveillance activities, including undertaking health spirometry, audiology, skin assessment and Hand Arm Vibration assessments under indirect supervision of an Occupational Health Nurse/Advisor
• Undertake vision, colour vision, height, weight, blood pressure and pulse assessments
• Undertake Display Screen Equipment, lone worker and night worker assessments
• Generate clear, concise and accurate outcome reports
• Report any abnormal findings or causes for concern
• Ensure care, correct use and calibration of equipment

What You Will Need

• Experience in an OH technician role or proven background in an OH setting. Someone with transferable skills may be considered.
• Demonstrate excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills
• Support wider team and company communications
• Sensitive and professional management of individuals
• Flexible approach
• Ability to adapt to unexpected and varied circumstances
• Ability to work under your own initiative, prioritise tasks and work to deadlines
• Proven experience in maintaining confidentiality and data protection
• Use of databases, OH specific databases
• Experienced with Microsoft packages particularly Microsoft Excel and Word
• Willingness to undertake appropriate training to support job requirements and activities
