Job summary

SGN is recruiting an Occupational Health Screening Nurse to support its workforce across the South SGN patch, including Portsmouth and surrounding areas. The role focuses on delivering health surveillance and pre-employment assessments while maintaining high-quality confidential records.

You will travel regularly, work within a multidisciplinary team, and have the chance to progress toward an Occupational Health Advisor role as part of a structured development pathway.

Qualifications

• Registered nurse with NMC registration and occupational health or health surveillance experience.
• Strong clinical assessment skills and professional judgement.
• Excellent communication and ability to discuss sensitive health matters with empathy.
• Understanding of confidentiality, consent, governance and record keeping.
• Experience in multidisciplinary teams and prioritising competing demands.
• Commitment to continuous professional development.
• Experience with audiometry, spirometry, vision screening or related tests is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Deliver health surveillance programmes and occupational health screening within area of competence.
• Conduct baseline, pre-placement and periodic health assessments with health histories.
• Support safety-critical and pre-employment assessments; escalate when review is needed.
• Perform quantitative face fit testing after training and sign-off.
• Undertake drug and alcohol testing per procedures and governance.
• Maintain confidential clinical records and support audits/QA.
• Coordinate appointments, recalls and follow-ups to ensure positive employee experience.
• Provide wellbeing information and signpost to support services.
• Collaborate with Occupational Health Advisors and wider stakeholders.

We’re looking for an Occupational Health Screening Nurse to join our Occupational Health team and play a key role in supporting the health, wellbeing and safety of our workforce across our operational regions. This is an exciting opportunity for a registered nurse who is passionate about preventative healthcare and is looking to develop specialist occupational health expertise within a supportive and growing team. The role also offers the potential for a structured development pathway towards becoming an Occupational Health Advisor in the future.

As part of a collaborative Occupational Health function, you’ll deliver health screening and surveillance programmes, support safe working practices, and help ensure employees receive a professional, high-quality occupational health service.

This is a fast-paced role in an ever-changing environment that will require regular travel across the South SGN Patch.

• Delivering health surveillance programmes and occupational health screening activities within your area of competence
• Undertaking baseline, pre-placement and periodic health assessments, including taking health histories and carrying out screening tests
• Supporting safety-critical and pre-employment assessment processes, escalating findings requiring clinical review
• Conducting quantitative face fit testing following training and competency sign-off
• Undertaking drug and alcohol testing in line with company procedures and governance requirements
• Maintaining accurate, confidential clinical records and supporting audit and quality assurance activities
• Coordinating appointments, recalls and follow-up actions to ensure a positive employee experience
• Providing wellbeing information and signposting employees to appropriate support services
• Working closely with Occupational Health Advisors, Occupational Health Physicians, Occupational Health Technicians and wider business stakeholders

What You Will Need

• NMC registration, plus occupational health, health surveillance or workplace wellbeing experience
• Strong clinical assessment skills and professional judgement
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to discuss sensitive health matters with confidence and empathy
• A thorough understanding of confidentiality, consent, professional governance and record keeping
• Experience managing competing priorities and working effectively within multidisciplinary teams
• A commitment to continuous learning and professional development
• Experience in areas such as audiometry, spirometry, vision screening, face fit testing, or drug and alcohol testing is desirable
• An understanding of workplace health risks and fitness for work considerations
• Experience supporting service improvement, health promotion or preventative health programmes.

You must have a full manual UK driving license as regular travel will be a key part of this role
