Job summary

OH Medical is recruiting an experienced Occupational Health Adviser to join an established in‑house team in Newcastle. This on‑site role delivers clinical services to a safety‑critical workforce, including face‑to‑face assessments and practical advice to employees, line managers and HR.

You will conduct health surveillance, manage sickness absence, produce occupational health reports, and supervise OH Technicians while maintaining confidential records in line with GDPR.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
• Recognised Occupational Health qualification (diploma/degree/MSc).
• Experience in health surveillance and case management.
• Strong clinical assessment, report writing and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good IT literacy and GDPR understanding.

Responsibilities

• Deliver health surveillance, fitness-for-work assessments and management referrals.
• Manage sickness absence cases and advise on return-to-work and adjustments.
• Produce clear, accurate Occupational Health reports.
• Support and supervise Occupational Health Technicians.
• Maintain confidential employee health records in line with data protection.
• Collaborate with the wider team and contribute to service improvements.

Location: Newcastle NE8 – fully site based
Salary: £43,588–£51,719 per annum, depending on experience
Contract: Permanent, full time

OH Medical is recruiting an experienced Occupational Health Adviser to join an established in‑house team in Newcastle. This is an opportunity to deliver a varied clinical service, build strong working relationships and support the health and wellbeing of a safety‑critical workforce.

Working onsite, you will provide face‑to‑face assessments and practical advice to employees, line managers and HR.

The Role

• Deliver health surveillance, fitness-for-work assessments and management referrals.


• Manage sickness absence cases, advising on fitness for work, workplace adjustments and return-to-work support.


• Produce clear, accurate Occupational Health reports.


• Support and supervise Occupational Health Technicians to maintain high service standards.


• Maintain confidential employee health records in line with professional and data protection requirements.


• Work collaboratively with the wider team, contributing to service reporting and improvements.

What We’re Looking For

• A Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration.


• A recognised Occupational Health qualification, such as a diploma, degree or MSc.


• Recent experience in health surveillance and Occupational Health case management.


• Strong clinical assessment, report‑writing and communication skills.


• The ability to work independently and contribute effectively to a team.


• Good IT skills and an understanding of confidentiality and GDPR.
