Job summary

Nottingham City Council is seeking an experienced Occupational Health Advisor to join our Employee Wellbeing team. You will provide expert occupational health advice to managers and employees, supporting workplace wellbeing and reducing ill health impact on attendance and performance.

You will work with managers, HR and healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality, evidence-based services, including health surveillance, sickness absence management and health promotion initiatives.

Qualifications

• Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse.
• A recognised Occupational Health qualification.
• Experience in an Occupational Health environment, including case management and sickness absence referrals.
• Strong report writing, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience or qualifications in health surveillance activities such as audiometry, spirometry, vision screening, HAVS.

Responsibilities

• Manage OH referrals and advise on fitness for work, sickness absence and redeployment.
• Carry out OH assessments and prepare reports for managers.
• Deliver health surveillance and protection programmes (audiometry, spirometry, vision screening, HAVS).
• Advise on health risks and liaise with GPs and other professionals.
• Support wellbeing initiatives and service development.

Salary: Starting Salary is £42,123 (Level one) rising to £45,529 per annum (pro rata for part-time) (plus market supplement)

About the Role

As an Occupational Health Advisor, you will provide expert occupational health advice to managers and employees across the organisation, supporting workplace wellbeing and helping reduce the impact of ill health on attendance and performance. You will work closely with managers, HR colleagues and healthcare professionals to deliver a high-quality, evidence-based service.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing occupational health referrals and providing advice on fitness for work, sickness absence, rehabilitation, redeployment and workplace adjustments.
• Conducting occupational health assessments and producing clear, business-focused reports for managers.
• Delivering health surveillance and health protection programmes, including activities such as vision screening, audiometry, lung function testing, skin assessments and HAVS Tier 3 assessments.
• Advising on physical, chemical, biological and psychological health risks within the workplace.
• Liaising with GPs, consultants and other healthcare professionals to support employee wellbeing, with appropriate consent.
• Supporting wellbeing initiatives and contributing to the continuous development of the Occupational Health and Employee Wellbeing service.

About You

We are looking for a motivated and adaptable Occupational Health professional who is passionate about improving workplace health outcomes.

You will have:

• Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse.
• A recognised Occupational Health qualification.
• Experience working within an Occupational Health environment, including case management and sickness absence referrals.
• Strong report writing, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience or qualifications in health surveillance activities such as audiometry, spirometry, vision screening, HAVS and skin surveillance.
• The ability to build positive working relationships with employees, managers and external healthcare professionals.
• Commitment to professional development and evidence-based practice.
