Nursery SENCO Job Opportunity

We are seeking a knowledgeable, patient, and nurturing SENCO to join an Early Years team at a wonderful Nursery. This vital role involves supporting children with special educational needs and/or disabilities to access learning, thrive in a nurturing environment, and achieve their individual potential. The position is available to start ASAP.

As the Nursery SENCO, you will play a key role in identifying, supporting, and coordinating provision for children with additional needs across our nursery setting. You will work closely with staff, families, and external professionals to ensure inclusive, high-quality support from the earliest stage. You will be third in charge and will need to step up when the manager or deputy are not around.

Duties as a Nursery SENCO:
  1. Support the early identification and assessment of children with SEN or developmental delays
  2. Work with staff to implement and monitor individual support plans and EHCPs
  3. Liaise with parents/carers, ensuring effective communication and partnership working
  4. Coordinate referrals and reports to external agencies (e.g., speech and language therapists, educational psychologists, etc.)
  5. Provide practical advice and modelling of strategies to staff
  6. Ensure provision meets statutory guidance (e.g., SEND Code of Practice)
  7. Maintain accurate records of interventions, progress, and outcomes
  8. Support the inclusion of all children in the full range of nursery activities
  9. Contribute to reviews, observations, and transition planning for children with SEN
Ideal Nursery SENCO:
  • Has relevant experience in an early years and SEN role
  • Holds a Level 3 qualification (or higher) in childcare, education, or a SEN-related field
  • Has a strong understanding of the EYFS and SEND Code of Practice
  • Is caring, observant, and committed to inclusive education
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Can work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Is confident in working with professionals and advocating for children’s needs
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young children
