Job summary

Best Start Recruitment is seeking a Nursery Room Leader for a Catford setting. You will lead the Under‑2s room, deliver high-quality learning and care, and partner with families to support child development.

The role requires Level 3 in early years, substantial babies experience, and solid EYFS/Ofsted knowledge within a supportive team and outstanding environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum level 3 in early years or equivalent.
• Experience working with babies/under-2s.
• Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage and current Ofsted framework.
• Good standard of English and Maths.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and ensure a high standard of learning, development and care for babies.
• Manage the day‑to‑day running of the Under‑2s room.
• Ensure rooms are a safe environment for children, staff and others.
• Develop partnerships with parents/guardians to increase involvement in their child’s development.

Salary: £31,420 per year

Working hours: 40 hours per week

Overall Job Role

Duties

• Assume responsibility for the effective daily running of the rooms
• Have a sound knowledge of company policies, procedures and expectations
• Act as an excellent role model to the staff team, showcasing high‑quality practice in all areas
• Take responsibility for excellent hygiene, health and safety and security practice within the nursery
• Work cooperatively with the managers, deputy and other room leaders
• Support and lead your room team in planning and providing appropriate daily activities in line with guidance from the EYFS
• Uphold the highest level of safeguarding practice and ensure company policies and procedures are adhered to at all times
• Manage and supervise observation, assessment and planning in the rooms, ensuring all children are making progress
• Work with outside professionals where required
• Work closely with parents and create trusting relationships with all families

Qualifications (Essential)

• Minimum level 3 in early years or equivalent
• Experience working with babies/under-2s
• Knowledge of the Early Years Sector
• Good standard of English and Maths

Relevant Experience and Skills (Essential)

• Two years or more experience working in a nursery
• Experience of being a key person
• Excellent working knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage and current Ofsted framework
