Job description

Nursery Practitioner

Here at Nurse Seekers, we are proud to be working with a private Day Nursery rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted. They are looking to employ a Level 3 Qualified Nursery Practitioner to work in the baby room at their well-established setting based in East Oxford. The main purpose of the role is to work as an effective member of the early years practitioner team, delivering flexible, high-quality education and care that meets the needs of young children and their families within the setting.

The nursery has been open for over 19 years and has capacity for 42 children. They value their team’s appreciation and voice, supporting professional growth and development. Many employees have been there for over ten years, building their careers within a close-knit support network.

Most children enter the nursery between 9-12 months. The successful candidate will be key in representing the nursery and ensuring smooth transitions, understanding the needs of the child and their family in partnership with the nursery.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Ensure the safe care of all children within your group and others, where appropriate.
  2. Maintain compliance with nursery policies, Health and Safety legislation, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, and regulations by Ofsted.
  3. Develop high-quality interactions to extend children's learning and thinking.
  4. Act as a key person for a group of children, observing, monitoring, and recording individual development.
  5. Plan, prepare, and participate in age-appropriate activities that promote physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development, enabling children to reach their full potential.
  6. Ensure activities are based on children’s next steps, observations, and interests, as per EYFS requirements.
  7. Keep accurate, up-to-date records of each child's learning and achievements.
  8. Liaise with parents of your key children, providing concise updates on activities, meals, sleep, etc., following nursery policies.
  9. Supervise, mentor, and serve as a positive role model for junior practitioners, supporting their integration into the team.
  10. Support children’s transition to the next age group room.
  11. Assist in identifying care plans for children with special educational needs, in consultation with the Room Leader, Deputy Manager, Nursery Manager, and parents.

Essential Criteria

  • Completion of a recognized F&R Level 3 Diploma - Early Years Educator (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of one year's experience working with children under 5 years old.
  • Clear understanding of safeguarding children.
  • Qualification in Paediatric First Aid.
  • Experience acting as a key person for at least four children simultaneously.
  • Confidence and positive communication skills are essential.
