Job summary

Cherubs Nurseries in Ilkeston is seeking a Nursery Chef to prepare healthy meals for children from 7am to 1pm, five days a week. You’ll be based at our Ilkeston nursery for the first six months, with opportunities to transfer to nearby nurseries. Some travel between sites will be required.

Qualifications

  • Experience preparing and cooking healthy meals for children.
  • Knowledge of kitchen hygiene and health and safety standards.
  • Ability to manage weekly food orders and stock levels.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook healthy meals and snacks from approved Cherubs menus.
  • Champion cooking and baking across the nursery, including events.
  • Maintain high hygiene, cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen.
  • Manage weekly food orders and liaise with Head Office for payments.
  • Keep accurate fridge/freezer temperature records and rotate stock.

Job description

Hours - 30hrs per week over 5 days
Monday - Friday (7am-1pm)

You will be based at our Ilkeston nursery for the first six months, with opportunities to transfer to another nearby nursery afterwards. As part of the role, you will need to be able to drive to support travel between sites when required.

What you’ll be doing
  • Prepare and cook healthy and nutritious meals and snacks, from approved Cherubs Nurseries menus.
  • Take an active role championing cooking and baking across all areas of the nursery, this could include baking with children and preparing additional food for nursery events including Parent’s Evening and Summer Fair.
  • Remove kitchen waste regularly (appropriately and hygienically) disposing of in the correct bins
  • Complete the weekly ordering of food and contact Head Office (via telephone) for payment to be made.
  • Maintain a high standard of hygiene, cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen.
  • Maintain adequate stock levels of food, ensuring there is enough for the week’s cooking but not too much that food goes bad.
  • Ensure good stock rotation in cupboards, fridges and freezers.
  • Be aware of health and safety legislation which is relevant to the nursery kitchen.
  • Ensure the Nursery Kitchen Operations Pack is followed and kept up to date at all times.
  • Keep accurate records of fridge and freezer temperatures.
