An exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative and dedicated Sexual Health Nurse to join our nurse practitioner team within our integrated sexual health service. If you are passionate about sexual health, eager to grow as both a clinical leader and practitioner, and committed to advancing nursing practice development, we would love to hear from you.
In this role, you will deliver expert nursing care in sexual health and contraceptive services, offer clinical leadership within the nursing and multidisciplinary team (MDT), and collaborate with the Matron and Senior Sister to develop and maintain high standards of nurse-delivered care. You will also lead initiatives to ensure an exceptional patient experience while contributing to the ongoing development of nursing practice.
To succeed, you will need significant clinical experience in sexual health at a Band 6 level, as well as a qualification in contraceptive care and competence in the insertion/removal of contraceptive implants. Competence in IUD insertion and non-medical prescribing is desirable, or a willingness to undertake training. The ability to improve quality and patient satisfaction, along with a well-organized and resilient approach to a busy and diverse clinical service, will be essential for success in this role.

Assist in delivering expert reproductive and sexual health nursing services, providing advice, assessments, and support following diagnosis and during treatment, aligned with departmental guidelines.
Be highly visible, accessible, and approachable to staff, patients, and the public to foster open communication.
Utilize specialist knowledge for assessing and interpreting complex issues, developing nursing standards, and guidelines.
Ensure high standards of evidence-based nursing care, assessing holistic needs, and initiating appropriate care steps, including partner notification.
Proactively manage the reproductive and sexual health caseload.
Demonstrate advanced knowledge of STI treatment and contraception, undertaking procedures such as bimanual examinations, proctoscopy, contraceptive implant and IUD insertions/removals, and cervical cytology.
Initiate and interpret tests, investigations, and ongoing monitoring.
Make and receive referrals based on patient needs.
Develop practice to support nurse-led clinics and patient needs.
Support service innovation to improve patient access.
Assess and meet ongoing care and wellbeing needs, developing care plans and referrals.
Use data to identify high-risk groups and ensure services meet their needs.
Maintain clear documentation in patient records following best practices.
Identify educational needs for patients and carers regarding sexual health management.
Ensure appropriate follow-up and provide information for informed decision-making.
Support shared decision-making and follow-up processes.
Deliver seamless service via MDT communication and processes.
Collaborate with MDTs at Denmark Hill or Beckenham Beacon sites as needed.
Participate in developing clinical protocols, standards, and service improvements.
Review and update clinical information biannually.
Ensure care aligns with protocols and guidelines.
Provide patient and family education and support.
Develop and evaluate integrated care pathways and MDT documentation systems.
Involve service users in feedback and improvement initiatives.
Administer medicines according to PGDs or as an Independent Prescriber if qualified.
Act as a patient advocate, respecting confidentiality, privacy, and cultural backgrounds.
Liaise with community, primary care, and voluntary organizations to develop services.
Coordinate educational programs for nursing staff and support their professional development.
Ensure training needs are identified and met, including mentorship and supervision for students and staff.
Lead on drug assessment programs for midwifery in collaboration with education teams.
