British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) is seeking a Nurse or Midwife Practitioner to join our Milton Keynes and Northampton units. The role covers 23 hours per week over Tuesday to Friday, with weekly travel between sites and a 12-month FTC.

You must be an Registered Adult Nurse Level 1 or practising Midwife with NMC PIN and at least 12 months of clinical experience; safeguarding and Gillick competencies are essential. Excellent communication and compassionate care are required.

Qualifications

• Registered Adult Nurse level 1 or Midwife practising with active NMC registration.
• Minimum 12 months clinical practice experience in nursing or midwifery.
• Knowledge of safeguarding and Fraser/Gillick competencies is essential.

Responsibilities

• Follow NMC guidelines and BPAS policies and Abortion Act provisions.
• Explain options to clients and ensure informed consent where abortion is chosen.
• Provide information on STI testing, contraception, and post-treatment care.
• Administer medications for Medical Abortion and cervical preparation when indicated.
• Conduct post-treatment checks and arrange referrals if needed.
• Support clients undergoing surgical treatments, including anaesthesia scenarios.
• Complete required paperwork and ensure safe documentation.

Are you a Registered Adult Nurse or Midwife who is passionate about reproductive healthcare?

We are looking for a Nurse or Midwife Practitioner to join the clinical teams at our Milton Keynes and Northampton units. You will work 23 hours per week over Tuesday to Friday. More details can be found in the further information section below.

About the role

As a Nurse or Midwife Practitioner you will provide high quality clinical care to our clients across a range of BPAS reproductive healthcare services including termination of pregnancy, STI testing & treatment, contraception & vasectomy. You'll be involved in all stages of the client pathway from consultation through to treatment & will work in all areas of the unit including theatre & recovery. This role will involve providing treatment & clinical information to clients both in person & over the phone.

About You

You will be a Registered Adult Nurse Level 1 or Midwife (practising) with active NMC registration and PIN. You'll have clinical practice experience of at least 12 months & have a keen interest in sexual health & reproductive healthcare. Clinical knowledge & experience of safeguarding and Fraser/Gillick competencies are essential for this role.

You will have excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills and you will be adept at caring for clients in a compassionate & empathetic way.

Main duties of the job

• You will work in accordance with NMC guidelines for Professional Practice & the wider regulatory frameworks of the Abortion Act 1967 & Health & Social Care Act as well as BPAS clinical policies and procedures.
• Ensure that the clientunderstands her options in relation to the pregnancy &, if choosingtermination, meets the ground of the Abortion Act.
• Provide informationon STI Testing, undertake tests and provide results and also discuss, informand confirm the clients future choice of contraception.
• Carefully check forand implement any procedure indicated on client case notes, includingadministering medication for Medical Abortion procedures or cervicalpreparation.
• Carry out posttreatment check-ups by assessing the physical condition of the client anddiscussing any concerns
• Complete relevantpaperwork and in the event of post treatment problems, make arrangements withthe clinic or refer to an NHS agency if necessary.
• To care for and support clients undergoing surgical treatments. Thiscould include general anaesthetic, conscious sedation or local anaesthetic.

We are also looking for:

• Sound & accurateadministrative competence with attention to detail
• Gynaecological nursing experience or relevant specialty i.e., sexualhealth, contraception
• Venepuncture / cannulationskills
• Comfortable using IT and Microsoft Packages including Outlook, Word and Microsoft Teams.

Salary £39,959 - £46,656 per annum pro rata for part time hours - depending on skills and experience

Shift Pattern

• Tuesday - 09:30 to 17:30 - Northampton
• Wednesday, Thursday - 13:00 to 17:00 - MK
• Friday - 09:00 to 17:00 - MK

Locations

BPAS Milton Keynes will be your base unit with mileage paid to the Northampton unit as per the expenses policy
