Job summary

BPAS in Luton is seeking a Registered Adult Nurse or Midwife (practising) to join our clinical team. You will deliver high quality care across abortion, STI testing, contraception and related services, both in clinic and via phone, across the client pathway.

The role requires active NMC PIN, 12 months' clinical experience and a compassionate, patient-centred approach. You will work to BPAS policies, with two part-time shift options (27.5 or 22.5 hours) on a rotating schedule.

Qualifications

  • Active NMC registration and PIN are essential.
  • Clinical practice experience of at least 12 months is required.
  • Registered Adult Nurse or Midwife practising with right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Work in line with NMC Professional Practice guidelines and Abortion Act 1967 and BPAS policies.
  • Explain options and ensure the ground of the Abortion Act is met for those choosing termination.
  • Provide information on STI testing, perform tests, give results, and discuss contraception choices.
  • Check client notes and administer medications for Medical Abortion or cervical preparation as indicated.
  • Carry out post-treatment check-ups and address any concerns.
  • Complete paperwork and refer to NHS or clinic if post-treatment problems arise.
  • Support clients undergoing surgical treatments, including anesthesia options.

Job summary

Are you a Registered Adult Nurse or Midwife who is passionate about reproductive healthcare?

We are looking for a Nurse or Midwife Practitioner to join the clinical team in our Luton unit working.

We have two roles - 27.5hrs and 22.5hrs. A detailed shift pattern along with salary information can be found below.

About the role

You will provide high quality clinical care to our clients across a range of BPAS reproductive healthcare services including termination of pregnancy, STI testing & treatment, contraception, and vasectomy. You will be involved in all stages of the client pathway from consultation through to treatment and will work in all areas of the unit including theatre and recovery. This role will involve providing treatment and clinical information to clients both in person & over the phone.

About You

You will be a Registered Adult Nurse Level 1 or Midwife (practising) with active NMC registration and PIN. You will have clinical practice experience of at least 12 months & have a keen interest in sexual health & reproductive healthcare. Clinical knowledge & experience of safeguarding & Fraser/Gillick competencies are essential for this role.

With excellent interpersonal & communication skills you will be adept at caring for clients in a compassionate & empathetic way. You will also be comfortable using IT & MS Packages including Outlook, Word & MS Teams.

Main duties of the job
  • You will work in accordance with NMC guidelines for Professional Practice & the wider regulatory frameworks of the Abortion Act 1967 & Health & Social Care Act as well as BPAS clinical policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that the clientunderstands her options in relation to the pregnancy &, if choosingtermination, meets the ground of the Abortion Act.
  • Provide informationon STI Testing, undertake tests and provide results and also discuss, informand confirm the clients future choice of contraception.
  • Carefully check forand implement any procedure indicated on client case notes, includingadministering medication for Medical Abortion procedures or cervicalpreparation.
  • Carry out posttreatment check-ups by assessing the physical condition of the client anddiscussing any concerns
  • Complete relevantpaperwork and in the event of post treatment problems, make arrangements withthe clinic or refer to an NHS agency if necessary.
  • To care for and support clients undergoing surgical treatments. Thiscould include general anaesthetic, conscious sedation or local anaesthetic.

We are also looking for:

  • Sound & accurateadministrative competence with attention to detail
  • Gynecological nursing experience or relevant specialty i.e., sexualhealth, contraception
  • Venepuncture / cannulationskills

Salary

£39,959 - £46,656 per annum depending on skills and experience - pro rata for part time hours

Hours - Two roles -

27.5hrs or 22.5hrs

Shift Pattern

The hours will be worked flexibly over Monday to Saturday within the opening hours of the clinic. A rota will be given 4 weeks in advance.
