Nuclear Medicine Service Lead Principal Radiographer/Technologist

Kingston Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Specialist Clinical Lead Radiographer/Technologist to provide expert clinical leadership, operational management, and professional development within our Nuclear Medicine department.

As a key member of the senior team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of a safe, efficient, and patient-centred service. You will oversee the training, development, and maintenance of competence for the Nuclear Medicine team, including trainees.

Our Nuclear Medicine department is a busy and well-equipped unit providing a comprehensive range of diagnostic services.

Main duties of the job
  1. Provide expert clinical leadership and guidance to the Nuclear Medicine Radiography/Technology team.
  2. Lead the development and implementation of clinical protocols, policies, and procedures, ensuring adherence to national guidelines and best practices.
  3. Oversee the day-to-day operational management of the Nuclear Medicine service, including staff rotas, equipment maintenance, and resource allocation.
  4. Lead and participate in service improvement initiatives, contributing to the development of innovative practices and pathways.
  5. Be responsible for the training, supervision, and appraisal of Nuclear Medicine staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  6. Maintain a high level of clinical expertise, performing a wide range of complex Nuclear Medicine procedures.
  7. Ensure compliance with radiation protection regulations and local rules.
  8. Act as a point of contact for complex clinical queries and provide expert advice to referrers and other healthcare professionals.
  9. Contribute to audit and research activities within the department.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • BSc Radiography/DCR or equivalent
  • Postgraduate qualification in Nuclear Medicine or equivalent
  • HCPC registered
  • Management or leadership qualification experience
  • ScoR approved Certificate in the administration of IV injections
  • Educational qualification or experience
Experience
  • Experience of leading a team at a senior level within the NHS
  • Experience of appraising and developing staff and managing an imaging modality
  • Experience of working in an extended role
  • Experience and evidence of participating in service development
  • Evidence of multi-modality knowledge and experience
  • Involvement in the recruitment of staff
Knowledge
  • An extensive and proven knowledge base in Nuclear Medicine
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the legislation associated with ionising radiation and radioisotopes
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, advisory, and governing bodies relevant to the modality (ARSAC, IRR, Environmental Agency, etc.)
  • An in-depth understanding of patient pathways
  • Knowledge and experience of change management
Skills
  • Good knowledge of Nuclear Medicine and CT equipment and software
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to deliver effective, high-quality, and efficient patient care
  • Additional language skills (if applicable)
