Job summary

Job description

Barts Health Nuclear are currently looking to recruit a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (band 6 ) to work at one of the country's largest NHS Trusts Barts Health NHS Trust currently has NM spread over 3 sites, namely St Barts (City of London), Royal London Hospital, and Whipps Cross University Hospital: Comprises of 4 SPECT CT, 1 Gamma Cameras and a state of the art GE Discovery PET CT . The trust also runs a major GFR services for the oncology department, therapy service and has a large in-house Radiopharmacy department. Currently there is an on-going project for the installation of a new SPECT CT system and plans are in place to have another SPECT CT by the end of this year. There is plan to make an addition of a new PET CT system along with currently existing PET CT. There is a very busy Rubidium cardiac service.

The department is well led by senior managers and well supported by Medical Physics and Nuclear Medicine Physicians who provide guidance and support. Successful candidate will be suported in their career path by providing educational opportunities, sponsorships to conferences and seminars. We are looking for enthusiastic, self motivated professionals to work across all of their main sites at Barts.

Main duties of the job

The aim of this role is to provide technical support to Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT. This involves the undertaking of all non-imaging and imaging patient investigations, radioactive dose administration (intravenous, oral or by inhalation), handling of radioactive sources, ordering, dispensing of radiopharmaceuticals, quality assurance, storage of radioactive waste and record keeping.

Experience
  • Post-qualification experience in Nuclear Medicine, using gamma cameras, associated equipment, and handling radioactive materials.
  • Knowledge of Nuclear Medicine scanning protocols with computer/keyboard skills.
  • Ability to give IV injections and carry out venipuncture.
  • Knowledge of Nuclear Medicine processing protocols.
  • Knowledge of gamma camera QC.
Skills
  • Ability to prioritise work in a busy environment, including organising staff resources when acting as deputy to lead radiographer
  • Willingness to work within established regimes and Standard Operating Procedures(SOP).
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn, and undertake training as required.
  • Able to contribute to development projects
  • Able to prioritise and manage own work and assist in planning work to match the clinical demand
  • Able to exercise own initiative when dealing with issues within own specialist area of competence
Qualifications
  • BSc Radiography or DCR or equivalent qualification in Nuclear Medicine Technology Or PG Diploma in Nuclear Medicine or equivalent qualification.
  • IV cannulations
  • State Registration - HPC or Voluntary Register of Clinical Technologists (IPEM)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
