Cardiff and Vale University Health Board in Wales invites applications for a Band 5 Clinical Technologist or Radiographer to join our Nuclear Medicine Physics service at University Hospital of Wales. You will contribute to imaging, non-imaging and therapy services and support patients with preparation and care.

You will work with highly specialised equipment, handle hazardous materials safely, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care.

Job description

The Nuclear Medicine Physics service at the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board currently operates at the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) site. We currently provide a busy DXA , non-imaging and therapy nuclear medicine service. We also provide support to the sub-region on a daily basis. We are a friendly team of 17 with plans to expand the service over the next few years.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Clinical Technologist or Radiographer at Band 5 to join our supportive and collaborative team.

The successful candidate will contribute to areas including clinical, technical and quality assurance., Undertake and deliver imaging, non-imaging and therapy services for all types of patients and in the course of their duties.

Provide patient support, counselling and welfare of patients, including ensuring the correct patient preparation and preparation compliance ahead of complex examinations.

Work independently within their scope of practice using a range of highly specialised patient nuclear medicine equipment. They will learn to differentiate between technical and clinical problems and to liaise with suitably qualified colleagues as required.

Deal routinely with patients and their relatives, requiring tact and sensitivity. Patients include paediatric and geriatric, who may be physically or mentally impaired, and all will need dealing with in an empathetic manner, in order to gain the greatest cooperation during highly complex examinations

Work with and handling hazardous substances such as unsealed radioactive sources, blood, and other body fluids, and frequently manoeuvring heavy equipment.

Will deliver excellent patient care while they are in the department this will involve manual handling, often of ill patients, some of which may be being barrier nursed, requiring the implementation of infection control procedures. The post holder will be required to concentrate on a frequent basis.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
