Job summary

Sellick Partnership is seeking a newly-qualified Construction Solicitor to join our Chester team. You will work across contentious and non-contentious matters, gaining exposure to a broad client base and high-quality work from day one.

You will collaborate with senior lawyers and partners in a supportive, partner-led environment, with genuine opportunities to develop a well-rounded practice in construction law within an established Chester office.

Qualifications

• Completed a construction seat during training contract.
• Experience across either contentious or non-contentious construction work.
• Strong drafting and analytical skills.
• Commercial and pragmatic approach to client advice.
• Good communication and client-handling skills.
• Ability to manage own workload within a wider team.
• Genuine interest in long-term construction law career.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to construction contracts and related documentation.
• Assist with JCT and standard-form contracts.
• Support construction disputes, adjudication and ADR.
• Address contractual issues, variations, delays and payment disputes.
• Provide advice on construction matters arising from development projects.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an NQ Construction Solicitor to join a highly regarded regional law firm in its established Chester office.

The role offers the opportunity to work across both contentious and non-contentious construction matters, providing exposure to a varied client base and high-quality work from the outset.

The Role

You’ll join an experienced construction team and work closely with senior lawyers and partners across a broad range of construction and engineering matters.

The team advises a diverse range of clients, including developers, contractors, subcontractors, consultants, funders and employers, meaning you’ll gain exposure to different sides of construction transactions and disputes.

Your work is likely to include:

• Construction contracts and associated documentation.
• JCT and other standard-form contracts.
• Construction disputes and claims.
• Adjudication and alternative dispute resolution.
• Contractual issues, variations, delays and payment disputes.
• Supporting clients with contentious matters and dispute avoidance.
• Advising on construction issues arising from development projects.
• General construction and engineering advice.

There is genuine scope to develop a well-rounded construction practice, rather than being restricted to either contentious or non-contentious work.

About You

We’re looking for an NQ Solicitor who has completed a construction seat during their training contract and is keen to develop their career within a specialist construction team.

You’ll ideally have:

• Experience across either contentious or non-contentious construction work, with an interest in developing across both.
• A good understanding of construction contracts and the relevant legal principles.
• Strong drafting and analytical skills.
• A commercial and pragmatic approach to client advice.
• Good communication and client-handling skills.
• The ability to manage your own workload while working as part of a wider team.
• A genuine interest in developing a long-term career in construction law.
