Job summary

Alexander Steele Recruitment is assisting an established FMCG manufacturer in appointing a Development Chemist to join the NPD team. You will lead formulation development and hands-on laboratory work, taking products from concept through testing, scale‑up and commercialisation, while improving existing formulations.

You will work across Quality, Regulatory, Procurement, Marketing and Production to ensure commercial viability, compliance and manufacturability, with opportunities to drive

Qualifications

• Hands-on formulation experience in laboratory settings.
• Experience with product development or NPD in consumer goods.
• Familiarity with raw materials, additives and functional ingredients.
• Experience supporting scale-up from lab to manufacturing.
• Ability to troubleshoot formulation and production issues methodically.
• Understanding of product quality, regulatory requirements and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Developing and improving formulations across a range of household goods.
• Plan and run laboratory trials, stability testing and performance evaluations.
• Support transfer of new formulations from lab to pilot and full-scale manufacturing.
• Investigate formulation, raw material and production issues with cross-functional teams.
• Evaluate new ingredients and sustainable alternatives for innovation.
• Document formulations, testing, specifications and manufacturing data.
