Job summary

Alexander Steele Recruitment is partnering with an established FMCG manufacturer to recruit a Development Chemist for the NPD team. This hands-on role covers formulation development, lab work, innovation and manufacturing support from concept through testing, scale-up and commercialisation.

You will develop and improve formulations for household goods, run trials, assess stability and performance, and help transfer products from lab to production.

Qualifications

• Background in formulation chemistry or product development.
• Experience with laboratory trials and product testing.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and technical documentation.
• Experience in transferring formulations from lab to manufacturing.
• Strong project management and ability to manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Developing and improving formulations across a range of household goods.
• Planning and carrying out laboratory trials, stability testing, compatibility assessments and product performance evaluations.
• Supporting the transfer of new formulations from laboratory development through pilot trials and into full-scale manufacturing.
• Investigating formulation, raw material and manufacturing issues, working with Production and other technical teams to resolve problems.
• Evaluating new ingredients, raw materials and sustainable alternatives to support innovation.
• Collaborating with Quality, Regulatory, Procurement, Marketing and Production to ensure commercially viable and compliant products.
• Benchmarking competitor products and identifying opportunities to improve performance, quality and cost.
• Preparing and maintaining technical documentation including formulation records, test results, specifications and manufacturing information.
• Supporting product registrations, regulatory requirements and quality standards where required.
• Managing multiple development projects at different stages, ensuring timelines, budgets and milestones.
• Presenting technical findings and recommendations to key stakeholders.
• Providing technical guidance to laboratory colleagues and supporting best practices in formulation.
